‘Disney Prime?’ A Membership Program for Disney Fans Might Be in the Works

Would you consider buying into a membership program for all things Disney? It could be a very real possibility, and it would all be a part of Disney’s “unique synergy machine,” the term coined by CEO Bob Chapek during the company’s last quarterly earnings call.

Between theme parks, merchandise, streaming services, theatrical releases, and so much more, there are countless revenue streams for the Walt Disney Company, and if a membership program comes to fruition, Disney fans could be funding future projects in an all-new way.

The Wall Street Journal shared some of the initial details of what such a membership program for Disney fans could include. Similar to a membership like Amazon Prime, a potential Disney program could include savings on certain products and services limited to fans who subscribe to the service.

It has not been confirmed what the membership would be called or how much it would cost, but the entire concept certainly seems to be a part of the now infamous “synergy machine.”

Kristina Schake, senior executive vice president and chief communications officer for Disney told the WSJ, “Technology is giving us new ways to customize and personalize the consumer experience so that we are delivering entertainment, experiences and products that are most relevant to each of our guests. A membership program is just one of the exciting ideas that is being explored.”

Of course, Disney already has membership programs in the form of its paid D23 memberships, Disney+ itself, and when available, Annual Passes to Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort theme parks. If a new membership program did come to be, it would engage customers around existing services, like linking products to other programs for easier purchase (potentially with QR codes on Disney+).

In addition to earning the company a greater profit and offering exclusive consumer perks, a membership service would bring with it greater insight into consumer preferences with lots of new data.

Another consideration we cannot help but notice when it comes to a potential membership program is the lack of availability in Disney theme park Annual Passes. Magic Key renewals are limited at the Disneyland Resort and at Walt Disney World Annual Passes have yet to go back on sale following the pandemic with the exception of very few options just for Florida residents.

Additional details have yet to be revealed, but if a plan for a membership program is indeed in the works, it is possible that we will hear about it at this year’s D23 Expo. D23 takes place September 9-11, 2022 at the Anaheim Convention Center and we will be providing coverage of the event here on DisneyTips.
