Updates roll in as Hurricane Storm Idalia approaches Florida. Walt Disney World is updating its Guests and Cast Members as the storm continues to near. As we previously reported, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground posted recommendations and requirements for Guests staying this week.
As the state of Florida and Disney World continue to monitor the storm, additional updates have been released. In the wake of evacuations, Disney World will assist evacuees and first responders who need it. Scott Gustin posted to X, “Florida residents evacuating from #Idalia and first responders assisting in storm-related recovery efforts can receive 50% off Disney Resort hotel stays on the evenings of August 29-31.”

Evacuees & First Responders Support
Disney World has posted information on travel flexibility, storm recovery, and support. In an effort to help evacuees and first responders during this tough time, Disney is offering both to call for assistance. It’s important to note that it applies to new bookings only and is based on availability. Additionally, “For evacuees, please call (407) W-DISNEY for details. For first responders, please call (407) 828-3200 (Option 3).”
Travel Flexibility
Disney also offers flexibility for those traveling to Disney World or attempting to leave during the hurricane. Disney wrote,
At this time, change and cancellation fees imposed by Disney will be waived for check-in dates of August 28, 2023 through September 5, 2023. Guests currently staying at our Disney Resort hotels whose travel plans have been impacted by the storm may receive a discounted rate to extend their stay through the evening of August 31, if needed, by visiting the front desk.
Storm Recovery
Disney World is prepared for inclement weather. It serves as a “staging area for storm-related recovery efforts for the state of Florida.” If necessary, Disney will take necessary steps and, as consistently seen, update their website as changes are made.
As we continue to monitor Hurricane Storm Idalia, we hope all residents, Cast Members, and Guests stay safe during this time.
