Disney Park Shuts Down Its Most Beloved Attraction

Theme park attractions close all the time. Most do so quietly, scheduled into maintenance calendars and noticed only by returning guests who expected them to be open.

Occasionally, a closure stands out. That usually happens when an attraction is central to a park’s identity rather than part of its supporting lineup.

That is now the situation at Tokyo Disneyland, where one of the park’s most popular modern rides is temporarily unavailable.

Disney’s parks have long relied on marquee attractions to shape guest expectations. These rides anchor lands, absorb crowds, and often define how a park is discussed by fans and travel planners alike.

In recent decades, Disney has invested heavily in large-scale dark rides. These experiences emphasize capacity, technical precision, and repeatability, particularly at international resorts with high attendance.

A Cornerstone of Tokyo Disneyland’s Expansion

Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast opened in 2020 as part of Tokyo Disneyland’s largest expansion. It was designed as the focal point of the project rather than a secondary addition.

The attraction is a trackless dark ride based on Beauty and the Beast (1991). Vehicles move independently through the show building, allowing scenes to play out with varied pacing.

Guests pass through multiple environments from the film, including the village, castle interiors, and ballroom. The sets are large and densely populated with figures.

The ride includes 35 electric Audio-Animatronics. These figures appear throughout the experience rather than being concentrated in one scene.

A Pepper’s Ghost illusion is used to depict the Beast’s transformation near the end of the ride. The effect relies on practical staging techniques rather than digital projection.

Since opening, the attraction has drawn consistently high demand. Wait times often stretch for several hours.

Disney Premier Access frequently sells out early in the day. When crowds peak, the standby queue has occasionally been paused to manage capacity.

Attraction Temporarily Closed

As of today, Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast is closed to all guests at Tokyo Disney Resort.

The attraction is scheduled for temporary maintenance from February 27 through March 9, 2026. The resort has not shared details about the work being carried out.

It is not the only attraction currently unavailable. Dumbo the Flying Elephant has been closed since January and is not expected to reopen until the end of July.

Mickey’s Philharmagic and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin are also closed at this time.

Swiss Family Treehouse has remained closed since 2022. No reopening date has been announced.

Concept art previously released by the Oriental Land Company, which owns Tokyo Disney Resort, suggests the walkthrough attraction may eventually be replaced. Those materials referenced possible future experiences inspired by the likes of Up (2009).
