Fans Devastated as Disney Announces Closing Date For Iconic Attraction

When Disney California Adventure Park opened in 2001 at Disneyland Resort, it transported guests back to the Golden Age of California, showing the magic of Hollywood, the sights and sounds of the boardwalk, exciting rides and attractions, and mouthwatering food. Unfortunately, Disney’s newest theme park just didn’t have the same kind of magic that guests had come to expect from the Mouse House.

In the years since its opening, DCA has undergone several facelifts, looking to draw in more visitors. Paradise Pier was transformed into Pixar Pier in 2018 and Bug’s Land was changed into Avengers Campus in 2021.

Throughout all of the changes Disney made to its Southern California theme park, there is one beloved attraction that remained, and continues to represent what California Adventure was originally designed to be.

That would be the Red Car Trolley that takes guests along Buena Vista Street, through Hollywood Land, and drops them off just outside the entrance to Avengers Campus.

Earlier this year, Disney announced that it would be expanding Avengers Campus at DCA. It would be adding multiple new attractions, as well as new shopping and dining spots to the land.

The construction will be big, and it will take a while. Unfortunately, during that time, the Red Car Trolley will be closed. Disney has not said how long the iconic attraction will be closed, and has not shared any kind of reopening date. This has led many guests to fear that once the Red Car Trolley goes away, it will not come back.

Now, months after upsetting guests about the Red Car Trolley’s impending closure, Disney has revealed its actual closing date. According to Disney, the last day that guests can ride the Red Car Trolley will be February 8, 2025. The attraction will close on February 9 as the theme park prepares for its upcoming expansion.

However, on a brighter note, guests will still be able to enjoy the magic of the Red Car Trolley, even after it closes. While the trolley will not be making trips through the park, it will still be sitting outside the Buena Vista Street station. Guests will be able to climb aboard and take pictures of the trolley. You might even want to keep an eye out for some characters who make their way onto the trolley!

Construction on the Avengers Campus expansion will begin in 2025, but the new attractions are not expected to open until 2026. Then, guests will be able to join Tony Stark — AKA Iron Man — on Stark’s Flight Lab and help fight Thanos on Avengers Infinity Defense. Infinity Defense was the E-ticket attraction that was promised when former Disney CEO Bob Chapek first announced Avengers Campus back in 2017.

Disney has said that the Red Car Trolley will return, but we do not know when that will be or if they will ultimately decide to shutter the attraction.
