Disney World Closes Two Popular Shops to Focus on Streaming-Related Merchandise

The Walt Disney World Resort is constantly changing, but the latest update to a popular merchandise location could hit fans of Disney merchandise particularly hard.

The ultimate shopping destination at Walt Disney World is of course, Disney Springs, which includes a wide variety of merchandise offerings, restaurants, and entertainment. Along with several notable non-Disney shopping experiences, Disney Springs is home to lots of uniquely-Disney stores that offer exclusive merchandise Guests may not find anywhere else.

Included among some of the most unique Disney shops were The Dress Shop and Wonderground Gallery in Marketplace Co-op, which have sadly closed to make room for new merchandise focused on Marvel and National Geographic.

The Dress Shop on Cherry Tree Lane has been a fan-favorite place to stock up on fashionable dresses and accessories inspired by Disney characters, artwork, and even theme park attractions since it opened in 2017. The location was an excellent place to start shopping for Dapper Day, or to make that splurge-worthy purchase on a Disney Parks-inspired dress finally. The store even featured collaborations with other trendy Disney-inspired brands like Her Universe.

Nearby inside the Marketplace Co-op Wonderground Gallery featured artwork by notable artists in the Disney space. Here Guests could purchase everything from photo prints to paintings, to accessories and home decor pieces, all inspired by “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”

While fashion-forward Disney fans and art lovers might be disappointed to learn that The Dress Shop and Wonderground Gallery are no more, Guests shopping for Marvel and National Geographic merchandise will be pleased to find it at Disney Springs. Check out the video below:

During a recent trip to Disney Springs @thrillgeek spotted the new merchandise in the former Marketplace Co-op locations:

Including National Geographic merchandise (and more Marvel merchandise, especially as there is already another Marvel store at Disney Springs) seems to connect back to Disney’s latest business strategy of connecting Guests’ experiences with Disney+ to their Disney vacations.

The removal of the former shops, The Dress Shop, especially may come as a surprise for Disney fans as the location was quite popular. As of this writing, we are still seeing merchandise from The Dress Shop collection on shopDisney, and would recommend checking other locations around Walt Disney World (like Disney Clothiers on Main Street, U.S.A., U.S.A.) as they will likely continue to carry select pieces.
