Did Disney Just Quietly Confirm the Reopening of This Magic Kingdom Shop?

Lots of changes are taking place around the Walt Disney World Resort, and fans have been anxiously awaiting the news of when new experiences will open and “temporarily closed” ones will return.

Over in EPCOT, this Disney’s Park is currently in the midst of its greatest renovation project since it opened in 1982. While Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opened as Walt Disney World’s newest thrill ride earlier this year, the Park is still working on Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, a new festival center, and more.

And, in the Magic Kingdom, construction of TRON Lightcycle / Run is taking place in Tomorrowland, and while work on the new attraction continues, both the Walt Disney World Railroad and the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. gift shop have remained unavailable.

If you have visited Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom recently, you may have noticed that the exit to Space Mountain is different right now, while the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. gift shop remains closed due to the TRON construction.

When TRON Lightcycle / Run opens, the Magic Kingdom’s newest attraction will share a gift shop for Guests to exit through with Space Mountain. While the new attraction still has months to go before it opens to Guests, we may be getting one step closer soon, as it seems Disney has hinted at an opening date for the Tomorrowland shop.

At the time of this writing, the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. shop is off the refurbishment calendar on Disney’s official website beginning November 6, 2022. While Disney has not confirmed a reopening date for the shop, it is likely that Guests will once again be able to shop on their way out of Space Mountain from November 6 on.

Unless the Walt Disney World Railroad returns before November 6, the reopening of this shop will be the first major milestone Guests can experience firsthand working toward the opening of TRON Lightcycle Run, which at this point has taken longer to build than the Magic Kingdom itself.

The reopening of the Walt Disney World Railroad remains dependent on construction in Tomorrowland as the trains need to be able to circle the Park. But we would note that training has begun for Cast Members who will work on the classic Magic Kingdom attraction, so a reopening soon is certainly possible.

We will continue to monitor the status of TRON Lightcycle / Run and its neighboring shops and rides, and will report back here on Disney Tips as we know more.
