After over 1,800 days of waiting, we’re thrilled to share a new milestone has been reached by the highly-anticipated TRON Lightcylce / Run roller coaster attraction coming to Walt Disney World Resort.

Five years ago, Disney fans from around the globe gathered together at the 2017 D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. HUGE news erupted as it was announced a new Disney Park roller coaster would arrive at Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom Park in time for its 50th Anniversary celebration.

With the 50th Anniversary launching on October 1, 2021, Disney fans we thrilled with the news of the addition and couldn’t wait to experience the TRON roller coaster, which was already a massive success in Shanghai Disneyland.

But as the years crept by, the progress of Magic Kingdom’s TRON was slow moving and later came to an abrupt stop due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. After a few months, the roller coaster’s construction resumed, but the pace has seemingly been that of anything but warp speed.

As the TRON coaster has taken longer to build than Magic Kingdom Park itself, Disney fans have been wondering if the project will ever be finished. We’ve thankfully seen the coaster train being tested and have watched the progress unfold surrounding the Walt Disney World Railroad tunnel completion as it will navigate through the TRON coaster.

Not only are Disney fans feeling the slow crawl of completion, but Disney’s neighboring theme park competitor, Universal Orlando Resort, is making massive strides in its new theme park, EPIC Universe, which leaves an embarrassing look at Disney’s projects.

Even though we all wanted an official opening date for TRON to be announced at the 2022 D23 Expo held in early September, we were told the coaster will open in “Spring 2023.”

But, another milestone has been reached as Walt Disney World Resort has finally added TRON Lightcylce / Run to its list of attractions on the website, with its own landing page.

The Disney website now reads, “LIMIT: NOT FOUND_”:

Lean forward into the ultimate race of survival! Leave the real world behind and join Team Blue in an epic quest across the Grid—the dark, computerized world with no horizons from TRON. Here, there’s no limit to the excitement.

Climb aboard your very own Lightcycle and take off on a high-speed adventure, racing against the Grid’s most menacing Programs. Surge past your fierce opponents as you attempt to cross through 8 Energy Gates and secure your team’s victory—so you can survive to race another day.

Scheduled to open in Spring 2023, TRON Lightcycle / Run will be one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park in the world.

The webpage continues with a nod to the 1982 TRON film that the attraction is themed after, noting, “From the Big Screen to the Theme Park”:

“In 1982, Disney made filmmaking history with TRON, the first production of its kind to mix live action with computer-generated visuals and backlit animation. This iconic film went on to inspire video games, comic books, an animated series and the 2010 sequel TRON: Legacy—as well as this new Disney theme park attraction.”

No height requirements or calendar has been added to the webpage just yet. Disney has, however, added the attraction is considered a “Thrill Ride,” includes “Big Drops,” and is categorized as a “Dark” ride.

We will continue to keep Disney Tips readers updated as we learn more about TRON Lightcylce / Run. In the meantime, don’t wait to begin making those “Spring 2023” Disney vacation plans to experience this highly-anticipated attraction!
