A YouTube filmmaker’s accusation that Disney copied one of his action scenes has gained significant attention online. His comparison video has sparked questions about how Star Wars projects are reviewed and approved, especially as the franchise makes new decisions about its future on Disney+ and in theaters.

Recent years have been defined by a wide range of Star Wars shows, including The Mandalorian, Andor, Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett. Reactions have varied, and the franchise’s television direction has not always connected with every audience.

The reaction to The Acolyte magnified those concerns. The series drew debate over pacing and lore, while also becoming a target of harassment from groups Leslye Headland described as “fascists and racists.” The discussion added pressure to Lucasfilm as it evaluates upcoming releases.

Meanwhile, several film projects are in different stages of development. The Mandalorian & Grogu has completed production for its May 2026 release. Shawn Levy is developing a new feature starring Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth. A planned Rey project remains in development but has seen multiple writers depart.

‘Star Wars: Visions’ Faces Plagiarism Accusations

Alongside these shifts, Disney+ continues to push forward with animated titles. One of the most stable performers has been Star Wars: Visions, which released its third volume on October 29, 2025.

The anthology is produced in partnership with global animation studios. Each short is a standalone story with its own visual style. That structure allows the series to experiment more than traditional Star Wars entries while still operating under the Lucasfilm banner.

That same structure now plays a role in a plagiarism dispute, drawing significant attention online.

A YouTube filmmaker says Disney used choreography from his 2019 fan film in a Star Wars episode. His comparison video quickly circulated across social platforms.

Lorenz Hideyoshi, creator of Dark Jedi: A Star Wars Story, argues that a duel in Season 2, Episode 7 matches his work “beat for beat.” He shared a split-screen clip placing his footage above the animated scene titled “The Bandits of Golak.”

He wrote, “When Disney blatantly steals your action design,” and many commenters pointed out that the motions and timing appear closely aligned.

“Why @disney?” he wrote. “Is it because we made a non-profit tribute fan film of one of your IPs and now you feel justified in stealing from this pool of creative output? Maybe either a) pay your animators more or b) hire an action designer.”

Fans Push Back Over ‘Star Wars’ Similarities

Fans reviewing the footage frame by frame say the choreography and camera movements look unusually similar. Hideyoshi has also argued that the framing and timing match his original work.

The episode was produced by 88 Pictures, an Indian animation studio contracted for the series. Although Disney and Lucasfilm did not animate the scene directly, fans have questioned how a sequence with such close similarities passed through approval.

This is not the franchise’s first plagiarism-related dispute. In 2021, Raven Sun Creative filed a lawsuit alleging that the escape-pod drop in Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance infringed on its patented technology.

As discussions continue, the comparison has prompted a wider look at how fan work and professional productions overlap — and where the boundaries should be drawn.

Do you think the episode copied the YouTuber’s film?
