Disney Stock Tumbles, Streaming Cancellations Crash Site Amid Kimmel Chaos

It hasn’t been one week since Disney and ABC suddenly ripped Jimmy Kimmel Live! from its late-night lineup. The move came after both Nexstar Media and Sinclair Broadcasting announced they would immediately stop airing the Emmy-winning show after comments Mr. Kimmel made about Charlie Kirk and Donald Trump.

The move to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live! was met with widespread condemnation from Hollywood unions like the Producers Guild, the Screen Actors Guild, and the Writers Guild. Large protests were held outside the Disney lot in Burbank, and multiple Disney stars spoke out against the company and even encouraged their followers to boycott by ending their Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions and cancelling their Disney vacations.

Disney has reportedly been in talks with Mr. Kimmel and his legal team about getting him back on the air. However, things don’t seem to be getting far, as Mr. Kimmel is purportedly refusing to apologize for what he said. Mr. Kimmel has told Disney leadership that his comments are being “mischaracterized,” and he refuses to “kowtow” to the outrage.

However, it does not appear that Disney is the one making the most considerable demands. Sinclair Broadcasting sent Mr. Kimmel a list of demands before it would air his show again. They are demanding that Mr. Kimmel apologize to Charlie Kirk’s family, make a donation to Mr. Kirk’s family, as well as his organization, Turning Point U.S.A., and take steps to “uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform.”

We do not know if Disney has any additional demands beyond the ones issued by Sinclair.

Disney has been dealing with the fallout for days, and things are not getting any better. As of September 21, Disney’s stock has dropped more than 2%, an estimated $4.4 billion, since dismissing Mr. Kimmel. Marvel star Mark Ruffalo also warned Disney that the stock would drop even more if Disney did not take action and bring the show back.

The stock also continues to be threatened as Disney+ subscribers flock to the streamer to cancel their subscriptions.

You better get your sh€t together, @DisneyPlus cos I wanna cancel my subscription but all I’ve been getting for hours now is this, online and on the app. Yeah, that “unexpected error” is a mass cancellation, I guess. When you bow down to fascism, you better expect ppl to act!

So many people took to social media to share that they were cancelling their Disney+ subscription and calling on others to do the same, that #CancelDisneyPlus was trending on X (formerly Twitter). We do not know exactly how many people have canceled their Disney+ subscription, or how many will sign up for plans again if Mr. Kimmel comes back.

It is a very real possibility that Disney and Mr. Kimmel will reach an agreement, and he will return to the airwaves. If Disney refuses to let Mr. Kimmel back on if he does not follow the demands listed by Sinclair, then it’s possible Jimmy Kimmel Live! has come to a permanent end at ABC.

Have you cancelled your Disney+ subscription in the wake of the Jimmy Kimmel Live! controversy? Do you think it makes sense that Disney’s stock is continuing to decline? How do you think Disney should handle the situation? Do you think Mr. Kimmel should apologize before being allowed back on air? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

  1. if only the Trump Shooter was as accurate.
Anyone who wears a Gulf of America shirt…. deserves what they get

  2. ANCcneeds to do better. Don’t cave to this unfunny insensitive buffoon. His remarks continue us to divide this country and spew hate!

  3. I’m not canceling my disney+ subscription because some idiot talk show host was cancelled.
Glad he was cancelled, shows they just can’t speak their mind about such a tragedy and not speak the truth and get away with it.
Disney made a right choice. Other shows should get the ax too.

I stand for Freedom of Speech- if you think a comedian isn’t funny DONT WATCH! DONT take away my right to- I am cancelling Disney+ and my Annual Pass and Disney trip!

    • That’s one of the reasons Disney is ok letting him go. No one is watching….
Now they will for a couple of days, but he’ll disappear again and Disney will continue hemorrhaging money for a show that doesn’t make as much as it costs.

  5. Keep your nose out of free speech in America disney.

  6. What happened to freedom of speech? Why is it ok for tRUMP and his followers to speak hate, but it’s not ok for the rest of us to disagree with them? How is it that people are so stupid that they can’t see we’re heading for a dictatorship? I applaud Kimmel for speaking out against the hate and racism that have somehow become ok with Republicans, their hate filled president and his supporters.

    • This is funny…the previous administrations of Obama and Biden LITERALLY colluded with social media to stop freedom of speech, but a guy breaks actual FCC guidelines for licensed use of PUBLIC airwaves and it’s the worst thing to happen to America. Notice that ALL the cable stations people can do and say whatever they want. It’s the rules the FCC is enforcing that ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox MUST adhere to. Maybe google some more before applauding misinformation and then sharing your “tolerance” for differing thoughts of half of your country. Venture out of your bubble and do what Charlie Kirk was trying to do. Talk to people and don’t hate.
