Disney Tips Your Guide To A Great Disney Vacation
EPCOT hasn’t been the easiest park for young kids in a few years. Yes, there are playgrounds during certain festivals, but there’s nothing really permanently built for kids to play in. This is when I really start to miss Innovations because it was such a great area for kids to play and explore.
That is not a criticism so much as a description. The park was built around ideas, and ideas do not always hold a four-year-old’s attention. World Showcase is a walk. Spaceship Earth is a slow dark ride. The best thrill attractions have height requirements, and Test Track sits at 40 inches, which rules out a meaningful chunk of the youngest guests.
Parents traveling with small children learn to work around that. You find the splash pad. You find the shade. You find the corner of a shop where a kid can burn ten minutes while everyone else regroups.
Disney just added one of those corners, and it is in a smart place.
A new cars play table designed for kids has appeared inside Test Track Gear Shop at EPCOT.
It is a small addition. It is also exactly the kind of thing that makes an afternoon easier, and it lands at the one shop where a kid who cannot ride is most likely to be standing.
What the Play Table Looks Like
The table is metal, with a blue play surface and a neon yellow stripe running around the border.
Five cars are available for kids to use, including a Lightning McQueen toy.
The silver legs feature angled panels in vibrant yellow and blue, which ties the whole piece into the color scheme running through Test Track’s post-reimagining design language.
It reads as intentional rather than improvised, which matters. A folding table with some toys on it would have felt like an afterthought. This looks like something they put thought into and actually designed for the space.

Why the EPCOT Location Is Smart
Test Track Gear Shop is where guests exit the attraction, making it a natural gathering point.
Think about how a family with mixed ages actually moves through this part of the park. Older kids and adults ride Test Track. Anyone under 40 inches does not. Somebody waits with them, and that somebody is standing in or near the shop while the rest of the group finishes.
A play table gives that waiting kid something to do instead of asking how much longer.
It also works for the reverse situation, where a child rides and then wants to keep engaging with cars afterward. The ride ends, the excitement does not, and a table with five cars on it captures that momentum.
The Merchandise Connection
There is an obvious commercial layer here, and it is worth being clear-eyed about it.
The new Disney Racers toys are also available at Test Track Gear Shop. Those die-cast cars are inspired by Disney attractions and characters, including Space Mountain, Tron Lightcycle / Run, and the Monorail.
Putting a car play table in the same shop that sells car toys is not an accident. A kid who spends five minutes rolling a Lightning McQueen across a table is a kid who is going to notice the shelf of cars nearby.
That said, this is one of the more benign versions of that strategy. The table is free, it requires no purchase, and it genuinely helps parents. Plenty of retail-adjacent play spaces are far more aggressive about the conversion.
Test Track At EPCOT Keeps Getting Small Updates
The play table is the latest in a run of changes around this attraction.
Test Track reopened last year after a major reimagining that moved away from the futuristic design of the previous version and drew more heavily from the history of transportation and the original World of Motion attraction that once occupied the location. That shift gave longtime EPCOT fans something familiar while keeping the high-speed finale intact.
More recently, the General Motors showroom at the attraction exit received its own refresh. Most of the vehicles on the right side of the showroom have been replaced, primarily with 2026 models, along with one 2027 vehicle.

General Motors employees remain available in the showroom to answer questions, and guests can discuss purchasing a vehicle if they want to. Signs beside each vehicle list specifications and pricing.
The Whole Post-Ride Area Is Becoming a Destination
Put those pieces together and something interesting emerges.
The showroom now has current-year vehicles and one 2027 model. The gear shop has a new line of attraction-inspired die-cast cars. And now there is a play table where kids can actually use them.
That is a post-ride area with something for essentially every age in a family group. Adults looking at a Corvette. Teenagers looking at a 2027 Cadillac. Small kids pushing a Lightning McQueen around a table.
For an attraction whose exit used to be a place you walked through, that is a meaningful shift.
What Else Is Changing at EPCOT
The play table is one small piece of a much larger stretch of activity across the park.
The Germany and Canada pavilions are both undergoing notable updates and construction, which increases the amount of visible work guests encounter as they walk through World Showcase.
In Mexico, the wood shop previously located inside the pyramid is gone.
Over in France, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure recently received new props, a much smaller update, but a sign that Disney continues adjusting existing spaces while larger projects move around them.
Worth Knowing Before You Go To EPCOT
If you are traveling with young kids and someone in your group wants to ride Test Track, the gear shop is now a genuinely useful place to wait.
Five cars, a designed play surface, and air conditioning is not nothing on an EPCOT afternoon in September.
Small additions like this rarely get announced, and they are usually the ones parents end up appreciating most.
