Walt Disney World’s premium resort guests have long enjoyed some of the best perks on the property. The crown jewel of these benefits is Extended Evening Theme Park Hours, a highly coveted perk that grants guests staying at top-tier hotels up to two extra hours in select theme parks after they close to the general public.

Historically, when the Magic Kingdom hosts this event, it is considered a massive value for vacationers. Guests can easily walk onto more than fifteen attractions during the two-hour window. However, a recent operating schedule update reveals a major downgrade for the fall of 2026. The after-hours benefit is being shifted to Disney’s Animal Kingdom for several dates, including a newly announced shift on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The result? Deluxe Resort guests will see their exclusive ride roster slashed from over a dozen Magic Kingdom favorites down to just four attractions.
The Halloween Party Problem
The primary reason for this frustrating change is the busy Halloween season. Starting in August, Magic Kingdom closes early to daytime guests on select nights to host Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Because the park needs to transition to a separately ticketed nighttime event, it cannot simultaneously accommodate a two-hour block for Deluxe Resort guests.

When Magic Kingdom is unavailable on its typical Wednesday nights, Walt Disney World shifts the perk to other theme parks. Disney’s Hollywood Studios will absorb some of these dates in late September and October. However, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is stepping in to take over the remainder of the affected schedule, starting with late-summer dates on August 26 and September 2, 2026, and continuing with the newly added date on October 20.
A Drastic Drop in Value: From 15 Rides to 4
The actual value of Extended Evening Hours relies heavily on the host park’s attraction density. Magic Kingdom is unmatched, offering action-packed access to iconic mountains and classic dark rides.

When the perk moves to Disney’s Animal Kingdom from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the value takes a massive hit. During this exclusive window, only four attractions are scheduled to operate:
- Avatar Flight of Passage
- Expedition Everest — Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
- Na’vi River Journey
- Zootopia: Better Zoogether!
While Avatar Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest are highly popular E-ticket attractions, offering only four operating rides for a premier hotel perk is a steep downgrade. For guests paying peak pricing at a Deluxe Resort, trading fifteen Magic Kingdom attractions for four Animal Kingdom rides is incredibly disappointing. Furthermore, if members of your travel party dislike intense roller coasters or screen-based simulators, their only options are a slow-moving boat ride and a 3D theater show.
Who Qualifies for the Perk?
Extended Evening Hours remains a highly restricted benefit. The perk is exclusively available to guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts, Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts (Disney Vacation Club properties), and select partner hotels like the Walt Disney World Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve, and Shades of Green. Guests staying at Value or Moderate Resorts are excluded from participating.
