October is shaping up to be one of the trickiest months of the year to plan a Walt Disney World vacation, and not because of the crowds.
Three of the Walt Disney World Resort’s four theme parks are set to see restricted access or altered operating hours at various points throughout October 2026. Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Magic Kingdom will all face schedule changes, each for a different reason, leaving Disney’s Animal Kingdom as the only park running its typical schedule for the entire month, aside from Extended Evening Hours for eligible Deluxe Resort guests.
For guests heading to Central Florida this fall, the message is simple. This is not a month to assume every park will be operating as normal. A quick look at the operating calendar could be the difference between a smooth park day and an unexpected early exit.
Hollywood Studios Closes Early on October 20
The first major restriction arrives at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Tuesday, October 20, when the park is scheduled to close to regular guests at 5 p.m. That is a full four hours earlier than its usual 9 p.m. closing time. The morning, at least, remains unaffected. Early Theme Park Entry is still scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., with general admission guests welcomed into the park from 9 a.m.
The early closure is tied to the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo 2026, which takes place at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin from October 19 to 22. A private evening event is scheduled inside Hollywood Studios from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., meaning regular guests will need to clear the park well beforehand.
Private events of this kind are nothing new at Walt Disney World, but losing four hours of an evening at one of the resort’s most popular parks is a significant change. Guests who had planned to catch nighttime entertainment or ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Twilight Zone Tower of Terror after dark will need to rethink their plans.
The good news is that there are options. Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom all have longer operating windows that day, so guests with Park Hopper tickets could spend the morning and early afternoon at Hollywood Studios before moving elsewhere for the evening.
EPCOT Opens Late Twice During Wine & Dine Weekend
Over at EPCOT, the disruption takes a different shape. Rather than closing early, the park will open late on two separate mornings. On October 23 and October 25, EPCOT will open to regular guests at 10 a.m. instead of its usual 9 a.m. As a result, Early Theme Park Entry will run from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on both days.
Both changes are connected to the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. October 23 coincides with the Wine & Dine 5K, while October 25 lines up with the half-marathon itself. With runDisney courses winding through and around the park, EPCOT will be the latest-opening Disney World park on both of those mornings.
That hour matters more than it might seem. Many guests rely on an early EPCOT start to tackle headliners such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Frozen Ever After, and Test Track before standby lines begin to build. With a later opening, that early advantage shrinks, and crowds that would normally spread across the morning could arrive all at once.
Guests with EPCOT on the itinerary for either date may want to consider starting the day at another park or enjoying a slower resort morning.
Magic Kingdom Faces the Most Frequent Restrictions
While Hollywood Studios and EPCOT each face a limited number of changes, Magic Kingdom will see by far the largest number of individual access restrictions throughout October.
The reason is Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which continues to take over the park on select evenings. On 16 dates in October, guests without a party ticket must leave Magic Kingdom at 6 p.m. Those dates are October 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, and 31.
The Halloween event itself begins at 7 p.m. and features party-exclusive entertainment, including Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade and Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks. The event is now sold out.
For regular guests, the trade-off is significant. On party nights, the standard nighttime entertainment lineup is off the table, including Happily Ever After and Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away. Anyone hoping to end their Magic Kingdom day in front of Cinderella Castle will need to pick a non-party date or purchase a separate party ticket.
With more than half of the month’s dates affected, this is the restriction most October visitors are likely to run into.
October 23 and 25 Are the Most Complicated Dates of the Month
Taken individually, each of these changes is manageable. The real challenge comes when they overlap, and that happens on two specific dates. On both October 23 and October 25, EPCOT opens late at 10 a.m. for Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, and Magic Kingdom closes to regular guests at 6 p.m. for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
That means two of Walt Disney World’s major parks will be restricted on the same day, one at each end. Guests hoping to rope-drop EPCOT and finish the night at Magic Kingdom, a popular park-hopping approach, will find that strategy squeezed from both directions.
These are the dates when careful planning will pay off the most. Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom may offer the most flexibility on those days, although guests should expect others to have the same idea.
