Disney World Confirms October Access Restrictions, 75% of Parks Affected

Walt Disney World is heading into one of its most schedule-heavy months of the year, with three of its four theme parks now confirmed to be operating on restricted hours at some point during October 2026.

Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Magic Kingdom will each see access restrictions tied to private events, runDisney races, and Halloween programming, leaving Animal Kingdom as the only park running its typical schedule (plus additional Extended Evening Hours for Deluxe Resort guests) throughout the month. Guests hoping to build a straightforward itinerary this fall will need to check park hours closely rather than assume normal operating times will apply.

Hollywood Studios is one of the parks affected, closing at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, four hours earlier than its currently posted 9 p.m. closing time. Early Entry will still begin at 8:30 a.m., giving regular guests access from 9 a.m. until the early 5 p.m. cutoff. The shortened day is tied to the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo 2026, a corporate conference running October 19 through 22 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin.

Disney is hosting a private evening event connected to the conference from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., and regular guests must exit the park before that event begins. Guests who had planned a full day at Hollywood Studios on October 20 may want to shift their afternoon elsewhere, since Magic Kingdom is scheduled to stay open until 10 p.m., EPCOT until 9 p.m., and Animal Kingdom until 6 p.m., with Extended Evening Hours running until 8 p.m. for eligible guests.

EPCOT’s disruption comes next, and it hits twice. On Friday, October 23, and again on Sunday, October 25, EPCOT will open to regular guests at 10 a.m. instead of the usual 9 a.m., with Early Theme Park Entry shifted to a 9:30 to 10 a.m. window. Both dates fall during Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, with the October 23 delay coinciding with the Wine & Dine 5K and the October 25 delay coinciding with the half marathon itself.

EPCOT will be the latest-opening Disney World park on both mornings, which means guests who typically rely on rope drop for shorter wait times will need a different plan, whether that’s starting the day at another park, taking a slower morning at a resort, or saving EPCOT for later in the day with a Park Hopper ticket.

Magic Kingdom’s restrictions are the most frequent of the three, driven by Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. On sixteen dates in October, including October 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, and 31, guests without a separate party ticket will be required to leave Magic Kingdom at 6 p.m., four hours before the park’s typical closing.

The party itself begins at 7 p.m. and comes with its own entertainment lineup, including Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade and Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular. Regular guests will not see Happily Ever After or Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away on those nights, since both are reserved for evenings when the party isn’t running. Guests who want the standard nighttime shows will need to plan their Magic Kingdom visit around the non-party calendar instead.

October 23 and October 25 stand out as the two most complicated dates on the calendar, since they combine both disruptions at once. EPCOT opens late at 10 a.m. on each date while Magic Kingdom simultaneously hosts the Halloween party, pushing regular guests out by 6 p.m. Guests visiting Walt Disney World on either day will be dealing with a shortened morning and a shortened evening in the same 24-hour span, which limits the usual park-hopping flexibility guests might expect.

EPCOT’s schedule shifts extend beyond opening time as well. On Monday, October 26, Extended Evening Hours move to Animal Kingdom, likely tied to the Wine & Dine weekend’s wrap-up and a post-race event at EPCOT the previous night.

With three of Disney World’s four parks carrying restricted hours at some point in October, and Disney’s operating calendar subject to further changes as the dates approach, guests are encouraged to recheck park hours shortly before their trip. A quick calendar check could be the difference between a smooth day and one cut several hours short.
