Disney World has finally shared an update on the future of Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort–or, at least that’s what we thought.

The beloved outdoor lounge has been closed since April while refurbishment work continues around the resort’s Grand Ceremonial House. Although the project was originally expected to wrap up by late June, Disney has now suggested that the closure will extend well into the fall.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has remained one of the flagship Deluxe Resorts at Walt Disney World since opening alongside Magic Kingdom in 1971. Inspired by the islands of the South Pacific, the resort has become known for its tropical landscaping, views across Seven Seas Lagoon, and popular dining destinations, including ‘Ohana, Kona Café, Capt. Cook’s, and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.
In recent months, however, guests have encountered ongoing construction throughout the resort as Disney continues a large refurbishment of the Grand Ceremonial House. The work has included exterior updates, temporary transportation changes, and construction walls around portions of the main lobby, all while the resort has continued welcoming guests.

One of the biggest casualties of the refurbishment has been Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace.
While the indoor Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto has remained open, the adjacent outdoor terrace has been unavailable throughout the project. For many guests, the Tiki Terrace offers an easier way to experience the legendary lounge without waiting for a coveted indoor seat, serving the same tropical cocktails and menu in an open-air setting complete with live music and waterfront views. Disney also promotes the terrace as the place to enjoy Trader Sam’s signature drinks while watching the nighttime fireworks over Magic Kingdom.
When the closure first began, Disney indicated that the refurbishment would last through late June. That deadline quietly passed without any additional information, leaving many fans wondering when the terrace would return.

Disney provided an updated timeline, confirming that Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace will remain closed through late October 2026 because of the ongoing refurbishment work at the Grand Ceremonial House, per reports from Kenny the Pirate. The updated notice gave guests their clearest indication yet of when the outdoor venue may finally reopen.
However, shortly after this report, the official Disney World website removed any mention of an October opening, with the notice now reading, “Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace is currently closed for refurbishment… Please check back here for updates.”
The continued indefinite closure likely means guests visiting Walt Disney World throughout the remainder of the summer—and much of the Halloween season—will still be unable to experience the outdoor lounge. Fortunately, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto continues to operate daily, offering its interactive tiki-themed atmosphere, collectible mugs, and fan-favorite cocktails.

That said, as one of the resort’s most popular locations, the indoor venue regularly reaches capacity shortly after opening, with waits often stretching well beyond an hour.
For now, Disney has not announced an exact reopening timeframe, meaning guests planning fall vacations should be prepared for the outdoor terrace to remain unavailable. As construction continues around Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace joins a growing list of resort amenities temporarily impacted by the ongoing refurbishment project.
