Disney World Confirms Restricted Magic Kingdom Access Next Month (With Changes)

The Walt Disney World Resort is officially in its fall season, and with it comes a series of operational changes across the parks. Most notable: the beloved and hugely popular Magic Kingdom.

The Magic Kingdom theme park, home to the iconic Cinderella Castle and attractions such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, and Peter Pan’s Flight, is the most visited theme park destination in the world. It’s Disney’s crown jewel in the Experiences division. For many guests, a visit to the Magic Kingdom is the quintessential Disney vacation, but those visits get harder to navigate as the summer season ends and fall begins.

Despite undergoing extensive refurbishment and construction work–including the ongoing development of Piston Peak National Park and the neighboring Villains Land–guests are still visiting Magic Kingdom in their droves. In fact, CEO Josh D’Amaro confirmed there had been a slight uptick in attendance at the domestic theme parks in the latest quarterly earnings call. However, while attendance was still softer than many would have expected, Disney Experiences’ revenue skyrocketed, thanks to higher ticket prices, premium extras such as Lightning Lane passes, and higher hotel costs.

Those rising admission prices have also been reflected in the hard-ticketed events Disney hosts throughout the year. In August, Disney World began its annual Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, with a slew of dates across August, September, and October dedicated to the exclusive Halloween-themed event. While exciting for those with tickets, the event closes the Magic Kingdom to regular guests at 6 p.m., meaning there is also no Disney Starlight Parade or Happily Ever After nighttime shows–these are replaced with entertainment like Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade and the Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Halloween Spectacular at Cinderella Castle.

For September, the number of Not-So-Scary parties totals 13, confirming that almost half of September is dedicated to the hard-ticketed event. Those without tickets are then directed to experience other parks like EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, or to the retail and dining district, Disney Springs.

There is a silver lining to all these access restrictions. In September, as in August, Disney is adjusting operations on both party and non-party days to give non-Halloween Party guests more opportunities to spend time in Orlando’s flagship theme park. Similar to August, where Disney adjusted hours at Magic Kingdom, so too will September be altered. For example, on Friday, September 11 (a party date), Magic Kingdom now opens at 8 a.m, with Early Entry shifting to 7:30 a.m. for select guests, giving visitors more time to hang out in the park ahead of the 6 p.m. closure

Then, on September 12, a non-party date, Disney World is once again opening Magic Kingdom at 8 a.m., with Early Entry landing at 7:30 a.m. However, this date–a Saturday–does not have a scheduled Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and has extended its closing time from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. Guests visiting on this date will now have almost 16 hours to enjoy the likes of Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, and Main Street, U.S.A.

So, while access is tighter in these fall months (and will be again once the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party commences on November 8, 2026), Disney World is making weekly operational adjustments to ensure all guests have good access to its most popular theme park.

As August comes to a close, the September dates for the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party are as follows: September 1, 4, 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 24, 25, 27, and 29. There is then another 16 party dates through October, with the final event taking place on Halloween itself.
