Walt Disney World is no stranger to severe weather, from rain, hurricanes, tornadoes, and much more.

A trip to Walt Disney World Resort is a dream come true for many, but even in the land of magic, Mother Nature occasionally has her say. Storms, with their sudden downpours and rumbling thunder, can damper the day’s plans.

Walt Disney World Resort is known as “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” seeing thousands of guests heading to the parks. Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios each have attractions and shows guests can head to if rain dampens their day.

Amidst the magic and wonder, there are moments when nature reminds us of its untamed power. Severe storms, with their gusting winds and driving rain, can sweep across Disney World without warning, disrupting the carefully choreographed routines of both guests and cast members.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning regarding the potential for severe storms in Central Florida. The biggest concerns are gusty winds ranging from 50 to 60 mph and frequent lightning occurrences. These storms are expected to happen this afternoon through evening hours. With the winds raging from 50 to 60 mph, a small tornado may happen.

Rain may be inconvenient, but it doesn’t have to damper your Disney experience. In fact, some guests find that a little rain adds an extra layer of excitement to their day! Many outdoor attractions remain open during light to moderate rain, while others may temporarily close for safety reasons. However, some indoor attractions offer the perfect refuge from the elements.

Rainy days often lead to thinner crowds at the parks, which means shorter wait times. Certain outdoor shows and parades may be postponed or canceled due to heavy rain or lightning.

When preparing for a day at Disney World, it’s essential to pack accordingly, especially during the rainy season. Some items guests may want to pack with them are ponchos or rain jackets, umbrellas, waterproof footwear, plastic bags, and extra clothes.

While it may be a gloomy day at Disney World, guests can still experience the magic and wonder of Disney even through the storm.
