In responding to an innocent social media trend, Walt Disney World Resort accidentally tricked some fans into thinking it was leaving Central Florida for the Great North. For a brief moment, Canadian Disney Parks fans were hopeful that The Most Magical Place on Earth would be much closer to home.

As shared in a now-viral video by TikTok user @drunkdistory, the Disney Parks account on Threads participated in the “We listen, and we don’t judge” trend, which encourages people to share their controversial opinions on any subject. They wrote, “We start in Canada…We listen and we don’t judge.”

“The tribe has spoken,” the TikToker said. “We start in Canada. To all you Mexico starters, we listen, and we don’t judge.”

The Disney Parks account was referring to the EPCOT World Showcase. Walt Disney World Resort fans often debate whether to start walking around the circular theme park land in Canada or Mexico from the World Celebration neighborhood. Those who begin their adventures in Canada felt vindicated.

The TikToker’s video went viral, amassing more than 400,000 views. Many Disney Parks fans were disappointed by the official account’s opinion.

“Why would I start in Canada, when I can start my day with a Margarita?” @sourmango305 asked.

If you aren’t doing a breakfast margarita we can’t be friends,” @jengalasso agreed.

However, as the video amassed widespread attention, a misconception spread that Walt Disney World Resort was implying it planned to “start” building a theme park in Canada. This comes amid widespread but unsubstantiated rumors that Walt Disney World Resort plans to depart from Central Florida due to its ongoing political battles with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

“For a second I thought this was a confirmation that they were building a Disney World in Canada,” @brandon.landrum commented.

“Anyone else think this meant there were opening a park in 🇨🇦?” @kl85005 asked, receiving more than 400 likes and affirmative replies.

The claim spread so far that @drunkdistory made this follow-up video debunking it:

Replying to @Kimberly Sorry for not providing more context. My content usually stay within my Disney Parks niche so I foolishly assumed everyone knew what I was referring to. My bad! #disneyfyp #disneyparks #epcot

“A lot of people interpreted my video that said “we start in Canada” that they are making a new Disney park in Canada,” the TikToker said. “It got people’s hopes up, and I feel really bad about that…[It’s] a very inside baseball jokey debate among fans of Disney World in which way you start the World Showcase.

“I do hope one day they give you a Disney park in Canada,” she added.
