A recent TikTok video has sparked concern among Disney Parks fans about the welfare of horses used in parades at Walt Disney World Resort. The video, which features the iconic horses pulling Cinderella and Prince Charming’s carriage during Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade at Magic Kingdom Park, has led to mixed reactions online.

The Role of Horses at Walt Disney World Resort

Horses have long been a part of Walt Disney World Resort’s entertainment offerings, from pulling trolleys on Main Street, U.S.A., to starring in holiday parades. More than 90 horses live at Disney’s Tri-Circle-D Ranch at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, where they are cared for by a dedicated team of professionals.

Many of these horses participate in entertainment and Disney Resort guest interactions, including carriage rides and horseback riding lessons. However, a recent video posted by TikTok user @pollyannatinksvacations has raised questions about their behavior during a recent parade performance.

In the video, the horses pulling the carriage appear to be jerking and pulling slightly as their handler works to calm them. While the movements could be attributed to minor agitation or impatience, the video left some fans worried about the animals’ well-being.

“I do not like the way they are being grabbed,” one commenter wrote.

Others, however, defended Disney’s treatment of the horses, noting that the video doesn’t necessarily show neglect or mistreatment. Many argued that the handlers demonstrated expertise and care in managing the situation.

Several commenters pointed out that the horses at Walt Disney World Resort are some of the best-cared-for animals in the world and that their behavior in the video isn’t unusual for working horses.

“The handlers are doing well to read their mannerisms,” one commenter explained. “The handler on the right noticed her horse nip towards the other and pulled it back in place. Nothing about that was aggressive or hurtful.”

Others suggested the horses might be newer to their roles and still adjusting to performing in parades. Disney breeds and trains many of its horses, which means younger animals may occasionally appear in entertainment as part of their training process.

“They might be new!” said another commenter. “Disney specifically breeds and raises horses for the carriage role. They also don’t appear in the parks that often, so getting used to their job can take some time. Just not as seasoned as some of the other horses, like those that pull the trolley.”

While the video has sparked debate, it also highlights the extensive care and attention Disney provides for its animals. The horses are part of a tradition that dates back to the early days of Disney Parks, and their role in parades and other experiences adds a touch of magic for many theme park guests.
