Disney World Issues Park Closure Notice, Effective October 20

Planning a Walt Disney World trip usually starts with the basics. Which parks to visit, how many days to budget, and maybe which rides matter most to your group. What a lot of guests don’t think to check until much later is whether the park they’re planning to visit is even open at the hours they expect. This fall, that question matters more than usual. Between a private corporate event closing down Disney’s Hollywood Studios for an entire evening and a stretch of Halloween season changes reshaping Magic Kingdom’s schedule on dozens of nights, Walt Disney World’s hours are shifting in ways that could catch an unprepared visitor off guard. Here’s what’s changing, when it’s happening, and how to plan around it.

Hollywood Studios Closes Early for a Private Event

Disney’s Hollywood Studios will close four hours earlier than usual on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Instead of the typical 9 p.m. closing time, the park will only be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day. Early entry for Walt Disney World hotel guests still begins at the usual 8:30 a.m., so the morning portion of the day remains unaffected.

The reason behind the early closure is a private corporate event. The Gartner IT Symposium and Xpo 2026 is being held at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin from October 19 through 22, and part of that conference includes a private evening at Hollywood Studios on October 20. The event takes over the park from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., which is why regular guest access ends well before Disney’s usual evening hours.

Guests who already have an October 20 Hollywood Studios visit planned will want to adjust. The good news is that Disney’s other three theme parks are picking up some of the slack that evening. Magic Kingdom stays open until 10 p.m., EPCOT runs until 9 p.m., and Disney’s Animal Kingdom is open until 6 p.m., with extended evening hours available until 8 p.m. for select hotel guests. If Hollywood Studios was the only park on your October 20 itinerary, it might be worth swapping that day for a different park and saving Hollywood Studios for later in the week instead.

Halloween Season Is Reshaping Magic Kingdom’s Schedule Too

While the Hollywood Studios closure is a single-day event, Magic Kingdom is dealing with something far more widespread. Halloween arrived at Walt Disney World while Florida was still deep in summer heat, and along with the pumpkins and seasonal merchandise came a real shift in how Magic Kingdom operates. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party kicked off its 2026 season on August 7, and the park is now effectively running two different types of days depending on the date.

On nights hosting the Halloween party, which totals 38 dates between August 7 and October 31, regular Magic Kingdom hours end at 6 p.m. Guests without a separate party ticket need to leave before the event begins at 7 p.m. Those nights also skip the park’s usual nighttime entertainment entirely, meaning standard daytime visitors will not see Happily Ever After or Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away on those particular evenings.

There is a small trade-off built into the schedule. Disney’s opening week calendar showed Magic Kingdom opening at 8 a.m. on August 7, with early entry starting at 7:30 a.m. for Disney Resort hotel guests and other eligible properties. That earlier opening has continued through the first stretch of party dates. Later party dates in the rolling calendar currently show a 9 a.m. opening instead, though Disney can and does revise operating hours as those dates get closer. A 9 a.m. opening listed months in advance is a working schedule, not a promise, so it’s worth double checking closer to your trip rather than assuming you can sleep in.

Fireworks and Nighttime Shows Depend on Picking the Right Date

If seeing Happily Ever After or Disney Starlight is a priority for your trip, the date you choose matters just as much as the park itself. On party nights, Disney swaps out the standard entertainment lineup for Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade and Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular, both of which are reserved exclusively for guests with a separate party ticket.

That means regular ticket holders hoping to catch the standard fireworks and nighttime shows need to specifically avoid party dates. Disney’s calendar has shown Happily Ever After running at 10 p.m. and Disney Starlight at both 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on eligible non-party nights. Starting August 31, Disney is also shifting Happily Ever After to a 9:30 p.m. showtime on scheduled nights, which adds one more timing detail worth confirming before you build out an evening around it.

With the standard shows now concentrated on fewer nights throughout the season, those non-party evenings could see heavier demand for prime viewing spots. That doesn’t necessarily mean every non-party night will be packed, but guests who want a good view for either show should plan to stake out a spot well before showtime rather than wandering over at the last minute.

On the flip side, a party-date visit isn’t a bad option for guests who are more focused on attractions than nighttime shows. Arriving early, riding through the morning and afternoon, and then leaving around 6 p.m. frees up the rest of the evening for Disney Springs, a resort dinner, or even a different park entirely.

Extended Evening Hours Are Shifting Around Too

Guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts or Deluxe Villa properties have one more schedule to track. Magic Kingdom is set to keep hosting Extended Evening Hours on select Wednesdays through August 19, but Disney is then moving that benefit over to Animal Kingdom on August 26 and September 2. Later fall dates have placed the benefit at Hollywood Studios instead of Magic Kingdom, which means a Deluxe Resort stay no longer guarantees a late Magic Kingdom night the way it might have in the past. Since the eligible park, date, and available attractions can all change, it’s worth checking Disney’s official Extended Evening Hours page close to your trip rather than assuming the benefit follows the same park all season.

The Same Pattern Comes Back for the Holidays

This split schedule isn’t going away once Halloween wraps up on October 31. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party begins November 8 and runs on 25 select nights through December 22, following the same basic structure as the Halloween party, with the event running from 7 p.m. to midnight and party ticket holders gaining entry starting at 4 p.m. Disney Starlight continues on non-party evenings during the holiday season as well, stepping aside for Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade whenever a Christmas party is taking place.

For anyone with a Walt Disney World trip on the calendar between now and the end of the year, the takeaway is the same no matter the season. Check Disney’s park calendar again shortly before you go, not just when you first book. Picking the wrong Magic Kingdom date during party season can mean losing several hours of evening park time, or showing up expecting fireworks that require an entirely different ticket than the one in your wallet.
