Disney World Plans 2027 Closure at Resort, Policies To End Unauthorized Visits

Walt Disney World is preparing for some significant changes in 2027, and guests planning to stay at one of Disney’s popular resort hotels may find that certain experiences are completely off-limits.

While Disney’s hotels offer plenty of benefits beyond simply having somewhere to sleep, the company also maintains strict rules about who can access certain amenities. Those restrictions could catch some visitors off guard, particularly families hoping to explore different resorts during their vacations.

Now, with several resort closures already scheduled for 2027 and a brand-new Disney hotel preparing to welcome its first guests, visitors will need to pay closer attention to where they’re allowed to go.

And for anyone hoping to take advantage of another hotel’s amenities without staying there, Disney’s existing policies could put an end to those plans.

Disney World Confirms Multiple Resort Closures for 2027

Disney World has confirmed that several popular amenities at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn will temporarily close in early 2027.

Beginning January 11, 2027, the resort’s Luna Park Pool will shut down for routine maintenance. The closure will also affect the Luna Park Crazy Play Area and Leaping Horse Libations Pool Bar.

Disney expects these amenities to reopen sometime in April 2027, meaning visitors staying at the resort during the first several months of the year will temporarily lose access to some of its most popular recreational offerings.

For families who specifically choose Disney’s BoardWalk Inn because of its themed swimming pool and surrounding amenities, the timing could be disappointing.

However, Disney isn’t closing every swimming pool at the resort.

The BoardWalk Villas Leisure Pool and BoardWalk Inn Leisure Pool will remain available throughout the refurbishment, giving registered hotel guests alternative places to swim.

Still, those hoping to experience Luna Park Pool’s carnival-inspired atmosphere will need to wait until the maintenance work is complete.

And while some visitors might assume they can simply visit another Disney hotel to use its swimming pool, Disney’s existing resort policies make that considerably more complicated.

Disney World Enforces Strict Policies Against Unauthorized Pool Access

Walt Disney World doesn’t generally allow visitors to use swimming pools at hotels where they aren’t registered guests.

This policy applies even when someone is staying at another Disney-owned resort.

For example, guests staying at Disney’s Pop Century Resort cannot simply travel to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and use its swimming pool.

Disney maintains these restrictions to reserve recreational amenities for the guests paying to stay at each property.

Many resort swimming pools feature gated entrances that require visitors to verify their eligibility before entering.

Depending on the location, guests may need to scan a MagicBand, compatible room key, or phone connected to their Disney resort reservation.

These access controls help prevent unauthorized visitors from entering restricted swimming areas.

That distinction matters because Disney generally allows visitors to explore its resort hotels, enjoy restaurants, and visit certain public spaces, subject to applicable access and parking restrictions.

However, being allowed onto a hotel’s property doesn’t automatically grant access to its swimming pools.

The same restrictions can affect poolside dining.

Some Disney resort pool bars sit inside gated swimming areas, meaning visitors who aren’t authorized to enter those areas generally cannot access the bars either.

Other locations, including certain pool bars at Disney’s All-Star Resorts and Disney’s Pop Century Resort, sit outside gated pool areas and may be accessible without entering the swimming facilities.

For guests planning to visit multiple hotels during their vacations, knowing the difference could prevent an unexpected disappointment.

Disney World Allows Certain Exceptions to Its Resort Restrictions

Although Disney generally prohibits pool hopping, some resort guests have access to swimming facilities at more than one property.

These exceptions primarily involve neighboring or closely connected Disney hotels, according to reports from AllEars.

For example, guests staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter can use the Doubloon Lagoon Pool at their own resort and the Ol’ Man Island swimming complex at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside.

Similarly, guests staying at Disney’s three All-Star Resorts can generally use swimming pools across the All-Star properties.

That includes Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort, Disney’s All-Star Music Resort, and Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Resort also share swimming facilities, including the popular Stormalong Bay complex.

Stormalong Bay features a sand-bottom swimming area, a lazy river, and a pirate ship-themed waterslide, making it a major attraction for families staying at those properties.

However, visitors staying elsewhere at Walt Disney World cannot simply show up and use the facility.

These exceptions don’t mean Disney has abandoned its broader restrictions. Instead, they reflect specific arrangements between participating resorts.

Keep in mind that there are other places — like Disney’s Art of Animation and Disney’s Pop Century — where guests can walk to the other resort, but are not allowed to use their facilities.

Guests should confirm their swimming privileges with their hotel before attempting to use another property’s facilities, especially as 2027 comes and Disney is expected to increase authorization of these policies.

Disney’s New 2027 Resort Will Bring Additional Restrictions

Disney’s resort access policies will be especially important when the company’s newest hotel begins welcoming visitors in 2027.

Disney Lakeshore Lodge is scheduled to open July 1, 2027, introducing another major accommodation option to Walt Disney World.

The resort will feature a large recreational area known as the Wetlands, adding another swimming and relaxation destination to Disney’s growing hotel portfolio.

However, visitors shouldn’t assume they can experience those amenities simply because they’re already staying somewhere else on Disney property.

Under Disney’s existing pool access policies, the Wetlands swimming facilities are expected to be reserved for eligible resort guests rather than becoming a recreational destination open to everyone visiting Walt Disney World.

That could disappoint visitors interested in exploring the new resort without booking a room.

While guests may be able to enjoy certain publicly accessible areas of Disney Lakeshore Lodge, its swimming facilities are expected to follow the same general access restrictions as other Disney resort pools.

Disney has not announced a separate, new resort-wide enforcement policy specifically for Lakeshore Lodge.

Instead, the opening serves as another reminder that staying at one Disney hotel doesn’t automatically provide access to every amenity across the property.

Disney World Guests Face Additional Resort Restrictions in 2027

Swimming pool access isn’t the only detail visitors should consider when planning their 2027 vacations.

Pool operating hours can also affect how much time guests actually get to enjoy these amenities.

Many Disney World resort swimming pools close around 10 p.m. or 11 p.m., depending on the location and time of year.

That means families spending the entire day at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom might return to their hotels after the swimming facilities have already closed.

Guests should check their individual resort’s operating hours rather than assuming every Disney hotel follows the same schedule.

Meanwhile, scheduled refurbishments can temporarily remove certain amenities from the guest experience, even when the hotel itself remains open.

For visitors considering Disney’s BoardWalk Inn during the first few months of 2027, the Luna Park Pool closure could be an important factor when deciding whether to book.

And with Disney Lakeshore Lodge preparing to open next summer, visitors hoping to experience its recreational offerings should pay close attention to the hotel’s access requirements.

For families spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on Disney accommodations, understanding exactly which amenities are included with their stay could make a major difference in their vacation experience.
