Disney World Permanently Strips Classic Icon From App as Muppet Coaster Hits Triple-Digit Wait

Disney’s Hollywood Studios felt completely different this morning. Long before many guests even finished rope dropping their first attraction, crowds were already flooding Sunset Boulevard as one of Disney World’s biggest ride debuts in years officially opened to the public. At the same time, longtime fans noticed another major change had quietly appeared in the My Disney Experience app.

The timing was not accidental.

After months of construction, previews, rumors, and fan speculation, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets officially launched for all guests on May 26, 2026. Disney had already been testing operations during previews, but today marked the first true opening day where regular guests could finally experience the reimagined attraction without special access.

They showed up in massive numbers.

Within hours, the attraction had already entered triple-digit wait territory, creating one of the busiest mornings Hollywood Studios had seen in weeks. While guests rushed toward the coaster itself, Disney simultaneously finalized another huge piece of the transformation by permanently removing one of the ride’s most recognizable visual elements from the app.

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Enters a Completely New Era

For 26 years, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster was tied directly to Aerosmith. The attraction opened in 1999 and quickly became one of the defining thrill rides at Walt Disney World. From the launch countdown to the famous soundtrack blasting through the ride vehicles, the coaster built a huge fanbase around its music-driven identity.

Now, that era is officially over.

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets replaces Aerosmith entirely, bringing Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem into the spotlight. Instead of racing through Los Angeles with Steven Tyler and the band, guests now join the chaotic Muppet crew for a high-energy rock concert adventure packed with comedy, wild visuals, and an entirely different tone.

Disney kept the coaster’s core ride system intact, including the intense launch, inversions, and fast-paced indoor layout. However, the atmosphere surrounding the attraction feels dramatically different now. The queue, preshow, music, lighting, and visual effects all lean heavily into the psychedelic style of the Electric Mayhem band.

Fans walking through the updated attraction immediately noticed how colorful and chaotic the experience feels compared to the old version. Bright neon lighting, Muppet humor, and exaggerated concert visuals now dominate nearly every scene.

For Disney, this retheme also represents the end of one of the longest-running intellectual property partnerships in Walt Disney World history. Aerosmith’s presence at Hollywood Studios lasted more than two decades, making this one of the biggest ride identity changes Disney has made in recent years.

May 26 Became a Massive Day Across Disney World

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster was not the only reason Disney World felt unusually busy today.

May 26, 2026, officially became one of the resort’s biggest launch dates of the year, with several major offerings debuting across Walt Disney World at the exact same time. Disney’s Hollywood Studios alone received multiple additions, while Disney’s Animal Kingdom also saw huge attention thanks to Bluey’s Wild World.

At Animal Kingdom, families rushed toward Bluey’s Wild World after Disney officially opened the new experience to guests. The attraction area already generated huge crowds during previews, largely because Bluey has become one of the most popular family entertainment brands in the world.

Hollywood Studios also officially debuted the new Walt Disney Studios area, along with Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, adding even more reasons for guests to visit the park early this morning.

Still, the biggest draw clearly remained Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.

Even though previews had already allowed select guests to experience the attraction ahead of time, today marked the official opening to the general public. That distinction matters at Disney World. Opening-day crowds tend to create a completely different atmosphere once regular vacation guests finally gain unrestricted access.

By early morning, Sunset Boulevard already looked packed with guests heading toward the coaster entrance. Lightning Lane return times quickly stretched outward while standby lines exploded almost immediately after park opening.

The energy around the attraction felt very similar to what Disney experiences during major ride launches, especially when longtime fans want to compare a replacement attraction to the original version.

Disney Quietly Finished the App Overhaul

As guests flooded into Hollywood Studios, Disney also finalized another major piece of the transition inside the My Disney Experience app.

For years, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster’s map icon featured the attraction’s famous red guitar associated with Aerosmith’s version of the ride. That image became instantly recognizable to Disney fans and remained tied to the coaster throughout its entire run.

That classic icon is now officially gone.

Disney had already removed portions of the old branding during the retheme process, but May 26 marked the first day the app fully embraced the Muppets version of the attraction. Guests opening the Disney World map now see a completely different guitar design attached to the ride listing.

The new icon features a much more psychedelic electric guitar design that fits the Electric Mayhem aesthetic. Bright colors and exaggerated styling now replace the classical red guitar that represented the attraction for over two decades.

It may sound like a small detail, but longtime Disney fans immediately noticed the change this morning. The app icon had become one of the last remaining visual connections to the Aerosmith version of the coaster. Now, Disney has officially erased that final piece as the Muppets era begins.

The update also helps reinforce Disney’s full commitment to this retheme. This was not simply a temporary overlay or seasonal refresh. Disney completely rebuilt the attraction’s identity, both physically inside the park and digitally across the resort’s systems.

Triple-Digit Wait Times Could Get Much Worse

The crowds surrounding the coaster this morning may only be the beginning.

Around 8:00 a.m., wait times had already climbed to roughly 110 minutes, and that was largely during Early Entry access for Disney resort guests. Those numbers immediately raised eyebrows because the park had barely been open to the full public at that point.

As more guests entered Hollywood Studios throughout the morning, lines continued building across the park.

Considering this is the official opening day for the general public, Disney likely expected huge demand. Still, triple-digit waits this early suggest Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets could remain one of the resort’s busiest attractions for quite some time.

The afternoon numbers may become even more intense once park-hopping crowds arrive and vacationers who avoided rope drop begin moving deeper into Hollywood Studios.

For now, one thing feels very clear: Disney World did not simply open a rethemed coaster today. The resort officially launched an entirely new era for one of Hollywood Studios’ most iconic attractions, and guests are lining up in massive numbers to see it for themselves.
