Disney Removes Classic Polynesian Resort Area for New Transportation Hub

Guests staying at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are about to notice a significant transportation change that could make arriving and departing the resort much smoother.

For years, Disney transportation buses and guest vehicles have shared many of the same traffic patterns around the popular Magic Kingdom-area resort. While the system generally worked, congestion during busy travel periods could create bottlenecks, particularly during morning park openings and evening returns.

Now, Disney is preparing to roll out a newly completed transportation facility that will dramatically alter how guests move through the resort.

A New Bus Stop Is Ready to Open

Construction on a brand-new bus stop facility at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has officially wrapped up, and the area appears ready to begin welcoming guests in the near future.

The project includes covered waiting areas, new seating, updated road markings, and fresh landscaping designed to create a more comfortable experience for guests waiting for Disney transportation.

While Disney has not announced an official opening date, the completed facility suggests the transition could happen very soon. Buses are currently still using the resort’s main Porte Cochère area, but that arrangement is expected to change once operations move to the new location.

The new bus stop sits alongside the resort’s monorail beam near the former main entrance road, creating a dedicated transportation hub separate from regular guest traffic.

Disney Is Separating Buses and Cars

The biggest change isn’t necessarily the bus stop itself. It’s the way Disney plans to reorganize traffic flow throughout the resort.

Once the new transportation area opens, Disney buses will utilize the former main entrance road to access the dedicated bus facility. Meanwhile, guest vehicles will continue using the resort’s newer main entrance that recently opened as part of broader infrastructure improvements.

That means buses and personal vehicles will no longer be competing for the same space.

Disney has created fully separate routes for buses and cars, a move designed to improve efficiency while reducing congestion around one of Walt Disney World’s most popular deluxe resorts.

For guests heading to EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, or the water parks, the change could result in more streamlined bus operations during peak travel periods.

What Happens to the Current Bus Area?

Once the transition takes place, the current bus pickup and drop-off location at the resort’s Porte Cochère will no longer serve Disney transportation buses.

Instead, that area will return to its traditional purpose as a dedicated arrival and departure zone for resort guests and other vehicles.

That may sound like a small adjustment, but it could have a noticeable impact on overall resort operations. By moving buses away from the front entrance area, Disney can reduce traffic conflicts while creating a more organized arrival experience for guests checking into the Polynesian.

The change also continues a larger trend across Walt Disney World, where Disney has increasingly invested in transportation infrastructure as guest demand continues to grow.

Another Step in the Polynesian’s Evolution

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has undergone a number of changes in recent years, including the addition of the Island Tower, refreshed guest rooms inspired by Moana, and continued updates around the Great Ceremonial House.

The new transportation setup may not grab headlines the same way a new restaurant or attraction would, but it represents one of the most practical improvements for guests staying at the resort.

Transportation remains one of the most important parts of any Walt Disney World vacation. Whether guests are catching an early bus to Disney’s Animal Kingdom or returning from a late-night visit to EPCOT, a more efficient system can make a noticeable difference.

Disney has yet to announce exactly when the new bus stop will begin operation, but with construction complete and the facility appearing ready for use, guests visiting Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort later this year may soon experience an entirely new transportation flow.
