While most theme park enthusiasts have their attention currently focused on the upcoming Universal Studios Great Britain AKA “Universal Studios GB”, Disney’s theme park empire is also expanding following the recent announcement of Disneyland Abu Dhabi.

But could Disney also be heading to the UK at some point in the future?

Between the announcement of Universal Studios Great Britain and now, the news about Disneyland Abu Dhabi as the seventh Disney resort worldwide, it certainly raises the question: could the UK be the next to receive a full-scale Disney resort?

The idea of “Disneyland GB” has been floated for years, with many parkgoers imagining a park that would rival Disneyland Paris — which is less than 300 miles from London.

But Disney’s upcoming move to the Middle East with Disneyland Abu Dhabi might make the UK seem like less of a priority. The UAE (United Arab Emirates) represents a huge market for international tourism and theme parks, which Disney is obviously keen to tap into.

Given the region’s wealth and demand for entertainment, Abu Dhabi is primed to become a major player in the global theme park race, making it a wise move for Disney. That said, a Disneyland GB isn’t entirely out of the question.

With Disneyland Paris seeing huge success over the years, Disney could opt to build in the UK as a way to cater to the European market in a different way. The combination of new offerings and the chance to serve a massive English-speaking audience could make a Disneyland GB a worthwhile project—though Disney would need to carefully consider the financial implications of opening a second European resort.

Universal Studios GB is already making moves to dominate the UK theme park scene, but with Disney’s focus on global expansion, a Disneyland GB could also be on the horizon.
