Since its 2023 reimagining, Mickey’s Toontown has been a sensory-friendly, interactive area for Disneyland Park guests of all ages. Unfortunately, some Disneyland Resort guests are taking the interactive elements way too far. According to social media reports, children are climbing into the land’s fountains to splash, swim, and even drink the water. The behavior has left many parkgoers frustrated, worried, and demanding action from Disney.
On August 31, Redditor u/Hey_yo_its_me started a discussion about the unusual sight in Mickey’s Toontown.
“First time seeing something like that,” the Disney Park guest wrote. “And kids even made it to the second level of the fountain. I envy those kids coz its HOT today, but at the same time kinda cringey. Took awhile before [Disney cast members] handled it. I’m guessing a SIGN will be put up there soon. Parents fault!”

The post gained traction quickly, sparking hundreds of upvotes and dozens of comments from Disney Parks fans who said they’d seen the same thing.
“I’ve seen a family with 4 kids playing in the fountain months ago,” said u/Grand-Painting7637. “The parents even gave their kids cups and they were filling them up while in the fountain and drinking the water. I was gonna yack. The parents sat there watching as they were doing this too all while laughing.”
Another fan, u/FairyRebelsWild, added: “I’ve only seen kids in the bottom tier, but it’s a huge problem. They should probably assign a cast member nearby to enforce rules.”

Others worried about the risk of accidents.
“Until a kid breaks their head open, Disney probably won’t prioritize that as a safety position and will use the labor on attractions/foods/etc.,” said u/WorkOutDrinkMore. “Now once something bad and nasty happens they’ll do a knee jerk reaction and get someone in there. But I promise the people letting their kids do this already won’t be stopped by a little sign.”

Former cast members also weighed in, warning that the water isn’t as clean as it looks.
“I worked there for several years and I’d never let the water touch me,” u/iSavedtheGalaxy commented. “Just because it’s clear doesn’t mean it’s clean. The water systems are interconnected and full of all kinds of chemicals to kill the algae, bacteria, piss, shit, vomit, etc that winds up in the water. One of my coworkers fell in the water and they sent him to on-site Urgent Care for shots.”
Plenty of Disney Parks fans blamed parents for allowing—or even encouraging—the behavior.

“If only we can get parents to parent at Disneyland,” u/snakes_lil_bandit lamented.
Still, not everyone saw the behavior as a problem. Some argued it’s simply kids cooling off on a hot day.
“Let’s be honest. The sun do be trying to murder us some days,” u/E1M1_DOOM said. “These kids are fighting for survival.”

u/Usual-Wheel7497 agreed: “Never see any reason for kids to not get wet when they can…If kids strip down a little who really care except for a few prudes.”
As of September 3, 2025, Disneyland Resort hasn’t installed new signs or added extra staffing near the fountains in Mickey’s Toontown. For now, it’s unclear if Disney plans to step in—or if the debate will remain between theme park fans, parents, and the Disney cast members caught in the middle.
