Disneyland Makes $250 ‘Star Wars’ Lightsaber Experience Free for Select Guests

Disneyland just surprised a handful of guests by letting them participate in one of its most expensive Star Wars experiences without paying the usual price.

Building a custom lightsaber inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has long been a bucket-list experience for Disneyland fans. Unfortunately, the hefty price tag makes it difficult for some families to justify the cost.

However, a recent guest experience revealed that Disney reportedly offers a way to enjoy the attraction without spending hundreds of dollars.

There’s a catch, though. This isn’t a discount guests can simply request, and Disney doesn’t advertise these particular opportunities.

One of Disneyland’s Most Expensive Experiences

Located inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park, Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers allows guests to create custom lightsabers.

Unlike purchasing a toy lightsaber, this experience places visitors inside an immersive workshop where employees, known as Gatherers, guide them through the building process.

Guests choose from different lightsaber themes, select components, and assemble their weapons during a ceremony inspired by the Star Wars universe.

The experience includes dramatic lighting, music, storytelling, and a special moment when participants activate their completed lightsabers.

For longtime fans, it’s an opportunity to feel like they’re part of the galaxy they’ve watched on screen for years.

Unfortunately, that experience comes at a high cost.

Savi’s Workshop currently charges $249.99 plus tax per completed lightsaber at Disneyland.

A family hoping to build multiple lightsabers could spend hundreds of dollars on top of their regular admission.

But one Disneyland visitor discovered that the building experience isn’t always reserved for paying customers.

A Rare Opportunity Guests Didn’t Expect

A frequent Disneyland visitor recently shared an unusual experience at Savi’s Workshop.

According to the guest, he and a couple of other visitors participated in the lightsaber-building experience without paying the normal $249.99 price.

The reason? Disneyland was training new Gatherers.

Disney allowed a small group of visitors to participate while new Cast Members practiced leading the experience.

The guest, an adult visiting without children, experienced the interactive elements normally included with a paid reservation.

However, there was one important difference.

He didn’t get to keep the lightsaber.

The complimentary opportunity covered participation, not ownership of the finished product.

Although the visitor expressed some disappointment at leaving without his creation, he appreciated the chance to experience something that ordinarily costs nearly $250.

This wasn’t a traditional giveaway or a newly announced Disneyland promotion. Instead, it was a rare training opportunity involving park guests.

Disneyland Has Another Free Lightsaber Experience, but There’s a Difference

Interestingly, Disneyland also offers a separate complimentary lightsaber-building experience designed for younger guests and families.

The Youngling Saber Building Expo – A Loth-Cat Crew Experience is a limited-time activity at Savi’s Workshop that allows visitors to participate without paying the $ 249.99 fee.

Disney currently offers the experience daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with walk-up participation subject to capacity.

Children and their families can explore lightsaber building and become members of the Loth-Cat Crew. Disney also welcomes those who are kids at heart.

However, participants must purchase their completed lightsabers separately if they want to keep them.

There’s an important distinction between this offering and the guest’s experience.

The Youngling Expo is an officially advertised activity geared toward families and younger visitors. The Disneyland guest, meanwhile, participated in a separate session because Disneyland was training employees.

He wasn’t accompanying a child to the Youngling Expo.

Instead, he received an unexpected opportunity while new Gatherers practiced conducting the ceremony.

Unlike the Youngling Expo, employee training opportunities aren’t advertised as regular guest experiences, and there’s no established way to reserve one.

Could Other Visitors Get This Lucky?

The guest’s experience raises an interesting question for anyone planning a trip to Disneyland or Walt Disney World.

Could other guests participate in Savi’s Workshop without paying the regular price?

It might be possible, but there are no guarantees with employee training sessions.

Both Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios feature Savi’s Workshop locations inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Guests visiting either location could politely ask nearby Cast Members whether Gatherer training sessions are taking place and whether visitors can participate.

However, Disney hasn’t announced a formal program allowing guests to sign up for complimentary employee training sessions.

There’s also no guarantee that Cast Members will be aware of upcoming opportunities or that they will need additional participants.

And if you receive an invitation, remember that participating for free doesn’t mean taking home a free lightsaber.

Guests who want to own a custom creation should expect to pay the regular purchase price.

For those who simply want to experience the building ceremony, though, the opportunity could be memorable.

A Disney Experience Worth Asking About

Disneyland offers plenty of memorable experiences, but not everyone can afford expensive extras during an already costly vacation.

That’s what makes this unexpected opportunity so interesting.

While most guests must pay $249.99 plus tax to build and keep a lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop, occasional training sessions may give a lucky few the chance to participate without purchasing one.

The separate Youngling Saber Building Expo also provides a complimentary option for families and other visitors, although it differs from the training experience.

It’s important to remember that employee training sessions aren’t officially advertised as free experiences, and visitors shouldn’t plan their vacations around receiving an invitation.

Nevertheless, if you’re already exploring Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, asking a cast member about possible training opportunities could be worthwhile.

You might not walk away with a lightsaber, but you could leave with an incredible Disney memory.
