The closures are strategically planned to enhance safety measures and improve the overall guest experience. Disney will provide real-time updates throughout the refurbishment period to keep guests informed about progress.

Key Attractions Affected

Among the 11 closures, several beloved attractions will be temporarily unavailable. One of the most notable is Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which will undergo its first-ever refurbishment starting January 20, 2026. This ride has been a centerpiece since its opening in 2020, making this scheduled closure significant for fans.

Additionally, the Haunted Mansion will be closed from January 12 to 22, as it returns to its classic format after its festive overlay. The iconic it’s a small world will also close on January 26, though no reopening date has been announced yet. Other rides, such as the Mark Twain Riverboat and the Sailing Ship Columbia, have limited closure windows, shutting down from January 12 to 15 and January 26, respectively. The Fantasmic! show will experience multiple closures throughout the month, adding to the list of available options that will be temporarily offline.

Importance of Refurbishments

Disneyland’s refurbishment initiative is crucial for enhancing visitor safety and modernizing attractions. The closures are part of a larger strategy to ensure that rides meet the latest technological and safety standards. Historically, routine refurbishments have led to enhanced guest experiences, often incorporating new narrative elements and technological advancements that visitors have come to appreciate.

For instance, when the Haunted Mansion returned to its original state after the holidays, fans eagerly anticipated minor updates that would enhance its classic charm. This proactive approach to maintenance allows Disney to continually refine and update their attractions, providing reasons for regular visitors to return and experience the changes.

Maintaining Guest Experience

While 11 rides will be down during this renovation phase, Disneyland is committed to maintaining a magical atmosphere for its visitors. Several alternative attractions will remain open, ensuring guests have plenty to experience during their visit. Character meet-and-greets and themed dining options will continue to be available, allowing families to create memorable experiences despite the temporary closure of select rides.

Moreover, seasonal events are likely to be introduced, capturing the lively spirit of Disney that guests cherish. This initiative stems from Disneyland’s understanding of its guest base, with many visitors seeking unique and engaging activities beyond the rides. By emphasizing diverse entertainment options, Disney aims to keep the park vibrant and enjoyable for everyone, even with the 11 closures in place.

While it may come as disappointing news to some, the planned refurbishment of 11 rides at Disney Parks is a necessary step to enhance safety and the guest experience. The park is working diligently to ensure that, once these closures conclude, visitors will be met with revitalized attractions, paving the way for an even more magical lineup of attractions in the years to come.
