A Disneyland Park dining area has been partially blocked off following a frightening incident that sent two guests to paramedics back in February.

WDWNT reported on May 20 that plywood construction walls have appeared in the outdoor seating area connected to the Plaza Inn at Disneyland Park. The barriers close off part of the patio, leaving the rest of the dining space accessible to Disney Park guests. Fabric-covered metal fencing has also been placed around several nearby flowerbeds as part of the same project.

The Plaza Inn is operating normally throughout the construction period, with its full breakfast, lunch, and dinner service continuing without interruption. Character dining at breakfast is still available.

Disney cast members confirmed to WDWNT that the work is tied to plans for replacing a ficus tree that collapsed near the restaurant during high winds on February 17 — the same evening Disneyland Park was hosting a Disneyland After Dark: Sweethearts Nite event.

Two Disney Park guests were struck when the ficus tree snapped and fell onto the Plaza Inn patio that night. Both were treated on the scene by paramedics and did not require transport to a hospital. The Disneyland Resort Fire Department, along with other emergency personnel, responded to remove the tree from the area.

LeWanda Joseph, one of the guests who was hit, shared what happened on Facebook in the hours that followed:

“My husband and I were the ones hit. The tree fell directly on top of us…We had just sat down to take photos at the table when the tree snapped and fell. We’re okay for now. The medical staff came through ASAP.”
