In addition to the previous surprises covered by DisneyTips.com earlier this week including special food items, here is another one to add to the list: an all new virtual event from runDisney!

For those unfamiliar with the runDisney Virtual series, they allow you to participate in a race through the path of your choice as opposed to a live runDisney event at a Disney Park. The virtual race also lets runners participate at their own pace in their own time, unlike an in-person Walt Disney World marathon.

The 12Ks of Christmas

In honor of the holiday season, runDisney Virtual will hold the 12ks of Christmas. The first of its kind event will feature three separate races and challenges featuring classic Disney friends. Each virtual run challenges participants on a 4K course (2.49 miles), accommodating experienced sprinters to first-time runners. Each holiday-themed Disney race will take runners through winter wonderlands and holly jolly jogs in a place of your choosing.

It’s still over a month before you can register for the event, so Disney has not provided a full list of details. However, more specifics are expected to be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, it’s never too early to start preparing by hopping on a treadmill or taking a short jog around your neighborhood (or even your favorite Disney Park!).

Registration for the event opens on July 25, 2023. Please check back with DisneyTips.com for more information about the special event as more details are released.

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
