Luxury Disney World Resort Removes Outdoor Seating for Guests

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has eliminated all outdoor dining at its primary Quick-Service restaurant, without providing any alternative seating. The abrupt removal of tables, chairs, and umbrellas from Captain Cook’s forces Walt Disney World guests paying premium Deluxe Resort hotel prices to eat standing up, carry food back to their rooms, or crowd into limited indoor seating.

Every outdoor seating element vanished overnight from Captain Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, according to a report from WDWNT on January 28. The Quick-Service dining location serves as the resort’s food court-style hub where guests order from multiple counters, self-serve desserts and beverages, and pay at cashiers. It’s also the main station for refilling Disney Resort souvenir mugs.

The outdoor seating area accommodated a significant portion of Captain Cook’s total dining capacity. Yellow squares painted on the concrete walkway outside the restaurant mark where tables, chairs, and umbrellas once stood, leaving a ghostly footprint of the removed furniture.

Roof repair work above the restaurant likely triggered the seating removal to protect Disney cast members and guests from construction hazards. The furniture will presumably return after maintenance concludes, though Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t confirmed restoration plans or provided a timeline for when outdoor dining will resume.

Nearby landscaping has also been cleared where roof work continues, with shrubs and flowers removed to avoid construction damage.

Premium Resort, Reduced Amenities

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort ranks among Walt Disney World Resort‘s most expensive accommodations, charging deluxe pricing for its Monorail access and South Pacific theming. Guests paying hundreds of dollars per night expect full amenities, including adequate dining seating at the resort’s primary Quick-Service location.

Removing outdoor seating without providing replacement seating creates an uncomfortable situation. Captain Cook’s remains operational, but dining options are severely restricted. Families must either squeeze into limited indoor seating, eat standing in walkways, or carry food back to their rooms—none of which align with the premium experience Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort advertises.

Multiple Dining Alternatives Available

While Captain Cook’s outdoor seating is unavailable, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort offers numerous other dining venues: the family-style Table-Service ‘Ohana, Kona Cafe (known for Tonga Toast), Tambu Lounge, Wailulu Bar & Grill, Pineapple Lanai (serving Dole Whip), Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, Barefoot Pool Bar, Oasis Bar & Grill, and Kona Island.

However, these alternatives don’t solve the outdoor Quick-Service seating shortage. Table-Service restaurants require advance reservations and take significantly more time than grabbing quick meals at Captain Cook’s. After a certain hour, bars don’t welcome families with young children. Unfortunately, the other options don’t provide the casual, quick dining that Captain Cook’s outdoor seating previously offered.
