DOLE Whip Day arrives at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort in 2 days, on July 21! The tradition began last year with Disney Parks announcing there would be an official holiday for this beloved, tropical treat.

Walt Disney World has often followed in Disneyland’s footsteps when it comes to food, attractions, and entertainment, but this was not the case for the Dole Whip. Disney World was the first to offer this popular pineapple dessert.

It debuted at Magic Kingdom Park in 1984, with Disneyland following suit in 1986. The treat originally went by the name DOLE Pineapple Whip when it was introduced at Aloha Isle.

Later, the name was shortened to DOLE whip, becoming one of the most popular, must-have food items at the Parks. Currently, in addition to the Theme Parks, Disney Cruise Line and Aulani also serve the item in various forms on their menus.

Well, you’re in luck because you can make your own version of the tropical delight at home. Check out this recipe from Disney Parks Blog!

Frozen Pineapple Treat Inspired by DOLE Whip® Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
Serves 4

  • 1/2-3/4 cup pineapple juice, divided
  • 2 cups frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 cup dairy-free vanilla ice cream
  1. Place 1/2 cup pineapple juice, frozen pineapple, and dairy-free vanilla ice cream in blender and blend until smooth – do not over blend. If the mixture is too thick to blend, add 2 tablespoons of pineapple juice at a time.
  2. Scoop into bowls and serve immediately.

In addition to the tasty treat, DOLE Whip lovers at home can celebrate by enjoying some of the beautiful Hawaiian music in Disney’s repertoire. Those who have been to Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa, have most likely noticed and appreciated the authentic music playing inside the stunning hotel.
