When Dollywood reopens this March, it won’t just be business as usual—the Tennessee theme park is rolling out more than 100 upgrades to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

From infrastructure improvements to brand-new entertainment, Dollywood is doubling down on what makes it special: a perfect mix of high-energy thrills, Southern hospitality, and a whole lot of Dolly Parton magic.

Dollywood’s Legacy—More Than Just a Theme Park

Since opening in 1986, Dollywood has evolved from a regional amusement park into a bucket-list destination for thrill-seekers, country music fans, and anyone who appreciates fresh-baked cinnamon bread. Nestled in the Smoky Mountains, the park isn’t just about roller coasters—it’s a love letter to Appalachian culture, blending live bluegrass, Southern comfort food, and Dolly’s signature larger-than-life charm.

Unlike most theme parks, Dollywood keeps its personal touch front and center. Dolly Parton, the park’s “Dreamer-in-Chief,” has ensured that her hometown values are woven into every experience, from the butter-smothered treats to the heartfelt gospel performances.

Now, the park is undergoing one of its biggest transformations yet, and the upgrades are happening across the board.

100+ Upgrades Coming to Dollywood

Dollywood’s winter closure isn’t just about routine maintenance this year. According to Dollywood Company President Eugene Naughton, more than 100 projects are underway to elevate the guest experience ahead of the 2025 season.

“Probably just like you think about in your own home, right?” Naughton told WATE. “There’s a room that needs to get painted, there’s a room that sort of needs a refresh, might need a new piece of furniture. It’s the same thing for us.”

While some changes are cosmetic, others are major improvements, including:

  • A brand-new 750-space parking lot to make arrival smoother
  • A full refresh of the Country Fair area, one of Dollywood’s most nostalgic sections
  • A new dining location, though details about the menu remain under wraps

Vice President of Guest Experience Cyndi McCormack emphasized that the changes build upon what guests already love about the park.

“We held on to the things that were already great, and we just expanded on that,” McCormack said.

New Entertainment, A Bigger Dollywood Sign, and More

Beyond infrastructure, Dollywood’s entertainment lineup is getting a boost for its 40th anniversary.

A new Dollywood sign, inspired by Hollywood’s legendary landmark, will now greet guests as they enter. Families with younger kids can also look forward to the new permanent Imagination Playhouse, an addition designed to expand Dollywood’s offerings for its youngest visitors.

The biggest new entertainment piece is “Play On,” a special anniversary show celebrating the park’s history. Entertainment Director Paige Bales teased that the production will be packed with fan-favorite songs, characters, and moments from past performances, condensed into a fast-paced 35-minute spectacle.

“This is our new production that will be able to showcase our most beloved shows, characters, and experiences, and we’re really planning on packing as much as we can,” Bales said.

Dollywood Reopens March 15—Here’s What to Expect

Dollywood officially reopens to guests on March 15, though Annual Passholders get a sneak peek on March 14 during the Passholder Preview Day. That same day also kicks off the I Will Always Love You Music Festival, a seasonal event honoring Dolly’s impact on country music and entertainment.

With over 100 improvements, an upgraded entertainment lineup, and a milestone anniversary, 2025 is shaping up to be one of Dollywood’s biggest years yet.
