Freddy Krueger is back—but not in the way horror fans might expect.
Warner Bros. Entertainment has unveiled a new 4K Ultra HD digital release of the original A Nightmare on Elm Street collection, bringing Robert Englund’s seven-film run as the infamous dream killer into sharper focus than ever before.
The studio has dropped a sinister new trailer to mark the release, stitching together some of Freddy’s most horrifying appearances across the saga.
“Can your nightmares be fatal? In this classic of the horror film genre that launched a movie franchise, a hideously scarred man who was murdered by a lynch mob returns years later in the terrifying nightmares of his killers’ teenaged children… And the dreaming teenagers are starting to die in their sleep,” Warner Bros. Entertainment teases in its official description.

The collection covers Englund’s decade-long stretch as Freddy, beginning with 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street and running through Wes Craven’s New Nightmare in 1994.
Also included are Freddy’s Revenge, Dream Warriors, The Dream Master, The Dream Child, and Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. His final return came later, with Freddy vs. Jason in 2003, although that crossover is not part of the set.
For Englund, the 2003 clash was the last time he donned the fedora and striped sweater. Since then, Freddy has only resurfaced in the 2010 reboot with Jackie Earle Haley in the role. Englund has been upfront about his retirement from the franchise, making another performance unlikely. Any future revival will almost certainly involve a new face behind the scars.
While a remake isn’t currently in the works, this 4K digital release ensures that Englund’s definitive portrayal remains accessible to fans old and new. Freddy may not be terrorizing teenagers on the big screen anymore, but his legacy has never looked sharper.
According to the Warner Bros. store, the hard set will be available from October 27.
