In a rumor that has become so widespread the origin video has garnered over one million views, some believe that Princess Elsa from Disney’s Frozen franchise is going to marry a woman in the upcoming Frozen sequel.

Disney has been embroiled in controversy after controversy in the recent past. From its portrayal of LGBTQ characters, which had some fans in uproar, to its diverse casting choices for movies like The Little Mermaid, many have disagreed with the Walt Disney Company’s choices. In addition to this, the specific criticism of Disney becoming too “woke” has been making the rounds—think the retheming of Splash Mountain to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which some slammed as a “worthless woke decision.”

Now, there’s a rumor circulating that has sparked controversy once again.

RUMOR: Elsa Will Marry a Woman in Frozen III

A few days ago, a video began circulating online that alleged that Princess Elsa was going to have a love interest in the upcoming Frozen movie, confirmed to be in the works by Disney CEO Bob Iger earlier this year. To the surprise of many, the video alleged that the love interest was going to be a woman named Isabella.

The video explains that Elsa “finds a romantic interest in the woman” and then later finds out that “Isabella loves her back.”

The video continues with more claims explaining that the pair—Elsa and Isabella—get married, and Anna, in their honor, gives up the throne to make Elsa the Queen of Arendelle along with Queen Isabella.

The video concludes by stating Anna does this so that she can show the city of Arendelle that it can have two queens, and Elsa and Isabella show the citizens that love can take many shapes and forms and that they should be proud of who they love.

The video was incredibly popular and has already been seen over 1.6 million times, with over 38K likes.

Some fans were extremely happy to hear the “news”: “Lol I always said those two are my favorite Disney lesbian sisters.”

Another felt Disney had become predictable, “I have only ever seen the first one and I knew this was coming. Disney is big time predictable lately 👎.”

Others were decidedly not thrilled, commenting, “If this goes down, Frozen is dead to me.”

Is the Rumor True?

The short answer is no. The origin of this rumor was the famous Disney satire website Mouse Trap News, whose express intention with any of its content is to bring a smile to fans’ faces with satirical and humorous stories that are entirely fake.

This said, it’s certainly noteworthy that so many fans were excited at the possibility of Elsa identifying with the LGBTQ community.
