Walt Disney World Resort stripped an entire art installation from EPCOT overnight without warning or explanation. The “Drawing on Inspiration” display—featuring original Walt Disney Imagineering concept art—disappeared from World Celebration just days after its January 13 installation, leaving festival-goers confused about why a centerpiece exhibit vanished mid-event.

The “Drawing on Inspiration” installation occupied the breezeway connecting Club Cool and Creations Shop in World Celebration. WDWNT confirmed on Wednesday that the entire display had been removed, despite being specifically created for the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, which runs through February 23.

Floor-to-ceiling decals showcased Walt Disney Imagineering sketches from major theme park projects, including The Beak & Barrel, Indiana Jones Adventure, Avatar Flight of Passage, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the Tree of Life, the Norway World Showcase Pavilion, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Each featured artwork was credited to the individual Disney artist who created the original concept sketch.

The display went up January 13—three days before the festival’s January 16 opening—and was gone by January 21. Disney Park guests visiting EPCOT’s World Celebration neighborhood found blank walls where the Imagineering showcase had stood the previous day.

Installation Failed Almost Immediately

The sudden removal followed rapid deterioration that began within days of installation. Disney Park guests documented the decals peeling and separating from the walls almost as soon as the festival started. On January 21, X (formerly Twitter) user @DisneyStarr8 wrote:

Yesterdau the banners were peeling off. 🤦‍♀️😬

The quick deterioration points to either faulty installation techniques or defective materials that couldn’t withstand even minimal exposure to guest traffic and environmental conditions in the breezeway. Rather than attempt repairs during the festival, Walt Disney World Resort chose to remove the entire structure.

Whether the “Drawing on Inspiration” display will be fixed and reinstalled before the festival concludes on February 23 remains unknown. Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t commented on the removal or acknowledged the installation failure.

What’s Missing

The removed display opened with an explanation of Walt Disney Imagineering’s creative process:

“Once Upon a Sketch.

When Walt Disney Imagineers begin dreaming up a new attraction, land, or experience, they often start with a sketch-a quick, simple drawing that captures the heart of what they hope to create.

Over time, these sketches will evolve into detailed concept art, intricate character studies, and fine-tuned architectural blueprints. But the sketch is the first point of origin-the one little spark, that starts the creative process.

This exhibit showcases sketches by current Imagineers who were inspired by the many wonders found throughout Disney Parks. May these little flights of fancy fan the flames of your own imagination-and help you notice how tiny details can come together to make something magical.”

The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts runs January 16 through February 23, 2026, despite losing the Walt Disney Imagineering display less than a week into the event. Other festival offerings continue, including artists selling unique works, limited-time food and beverages, and the Disney on Broadway concert series.

Available experiences include Animation Academy, Once Upon a Stage: The Magic of Disney on Broadway display, Disney Lorcana stations, chalk art, and Expression Section: A Paint by Numbers Mural. Guests can also purchase the Figment scavenger hunt, which challenges them to find the purple dragon hidden throughout World Showcase.
