EPCOT Opens New Walk-Up Experience at Germany Pavilion in Middle of Construction

Construction has become a familiar sight around Walt Disney World, and guests don’t have to look far to find another project underway.

From major attraction work to smaller refurbishments, Disney continues to update different corners of the resort. EPCOT’s World Showcase is no exception. Several pavilions have seen construction walls and refurbishment work appear in recent months, creating temporary changes for guests exploring the park.

Germany has become one of the busiest areas in World Showcase for that work.

But right in the middle of all the construction, Disney has added something completely new for guests. It isn’t a massive attraction or a major overhaul. Instead, it’s a smaller addition that could make a noticeable difference for people spending time in this part of EPCOT.

And with one of the park’s biggest events about to begin, the timing makes plenty of sense.

Germany Pavilion Has Become a Construction Hub

Guests walking through the Germany Pavilion right now will quickly notice that parts of the area look a little different.

In fact, Germany has become something of a construction hub at EPCOT lately. A large portion of the Volkskunst shop has been closed as work continues in the pavilion. Construction walls have also gone up around the area’s public restrooms.

Additional refurbishment work has been taking place around the pavilion’s exterior, including work involving the roof.

None of that means Germany itself is closed. Guests can still explore the pavilion, visit available shops, grab something to eat, and enjoy the atmosphere. Biergarten Restaurant also continues to welcome guests for its German-inspired buffet and live entertainment.

However, navigating the area can feel different while Disney works around these temporary closures and construction zones.

That’s what makes the pavilion’s newest addition particularly interesting. Rather than simply removing options during construction, Disney has opened another convenient spot for guests.

A New Experience Is Now Available

A new walk-up bar has opened near Sommerfest, giving EPCOT guests another easy place to pick up alcoholic beverages in the Germany Pavilion.

Guests will find the bar near the Sommerfest kiosk at the entrance to Biergarten Restaurant. The ordering process is relatively straightforward, although it involves two stops.

Guests first place their drink orders at the Sommerfest register. They can then pick up those beverages from the nearby bar. Anyone ordering food will continue to pick it up directly from the Sommerfest window.

The new location currently serves several German beer options, including Schöfferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen, Bitburger Premium Pilsner, and Warsteiner Dunkel. Water is also available.

While the addition itself is fairly simple, it gives guests a much more visible option during the ongoing refurbishment work elsewhere in Germany.

The nearby Weinkeller bar remains open, but construction has changed how guests reach it. Its exterior entrance is currently unavailable due to refurbishment work around the pavilion.

For now, guests have to enter through Stein Haus to reach Weinkeller. That’s not necessarily obvious to someone casually walking through World Showcase, particularly if they aren’t already familiar with the layout of the Germany Pavilion.

The new Sommerfest setup provides a much easier-to-spot alternative. Guests walking through the pavilion can order a beer without having to figure out how to access another location affected by construction.

That convenience could become even more useful in just a few weeks.

EPCOT Food & Wine Festival Begins August 27

The Germany Pavilion will soon get considerably busier as EPCOT prepares for one of its biggest events of the year.

The 2026 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival begins August 27 and runs through November 21, giving guests nearly three months to sample food and beverages from around the world.

The festival transforms a trip around EPCOT into something of a global tasting tour. Festival marketplaces offer smaller dishes, desserts, beer, wine, cocktails, and other specialty beverages inspired by different countries and cuisines.

Guests don’t need a separate event ticket to attend. Food and beverages cost extra, but the festival itself is included with regular EPCOT admission and, when required, a valid park reservation.

Beyond the food, the event typically includes entertainment, merchandise, scavenger hunts, and other limited-time offerings throughout EPCOT. The Eat to the Beat Concert Series is another major part of the festival, bringing live musical performances to the America Gardens Theatre.

World Showcase naturally becomes one of the biggest focal points during Food & Wine. Guests frequently spend hours moving between pavilions and festival marketplaces, stopping for different dishes and drinks along the way.

That makes the timing of Germany’s new walk-up option especially useful. Even with construction affecting portions of the pavilion, guests now have another clearly visible place to grab a beverage before continuing around World Showcase.

EPCOT Continues Changing Around the Construction

Construction walls aren’t going away at Walt Disney World anytime soon, and EPCOT guests should expect to encounter plenty of projects during upcoming visits.

Germany is a good example of how Disney is trying to keep areas operating while the work moves forward.

The pavilion may have closed sections, blocked entrances, and temporary construction walls, but most of the area remains available to guests. Now, Disney has even added a new walk-up bar in the middle of that work.

It’s a relatively small addition compared to the massive projects happening elsewhere around Walt Disney World, but sometimes those smaller operational changes can make a visit easier.

And once the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival begins on August 27, having another convenient place to grab a drink could prove particularly useful for guests.

For now, guests heading through the Germany Pavilion should expect construction—but they’ll also find something new waiting behind those walls.
