Could These EPCOT Restaurants Reopen Soon?

Walt Disney World has been reopening lots of experiences that closed during the pandemic, but one iconic area of a Disney Park in particular still has a couple of restaurants that have remained shuttered since 2020.

EPCOT has had a couple of new restaurants open in the past couple of years, including the addition of Connections Cafe & Eatery for Guests looking for a quick meal in the Park, and Space 220 for a totally unique, and out of this world experience.

Still, some restaurants in World Showcase have yet to reopen, so we wanted to check in to see which locations could be opening soon, and which dining spots are still yet to be determined.

Restaurant Marrakesh

The third-party organization that ran Restaurant Marrakesh in EPCOT’s Morocco pavilion has had a difficult time bouncing back from the pandemic, causing this table-service restaurant to remain closed. Restaurant Marrakesh was known for its expansive menu of Moroccan cuisine served alongside belly dancers who provided live entertainment for Guests during dinner. With the location closed indefinitely, a Florida Blue Medicare lounge is currently operating in the former dining area, and Disney has yet to share an update on if or when Restaurant Marrakesh will return.

Takumi-Tei

When it opened in 2019, Takumi-Tei instantly became the new hit fine dining location at Walt Disney World. Located in the Japan pavilion, this signature (and then some…) dining experience offered Guests a unique deep-dive into gourmet cuisine with the choice between a multi-course tasting menu and a la carte specialties. Sush, wagyu beef, and exclusive sakes were standouts at the location that has now remained closed since March 2020. Takumi-Tei is part of Mitsukoshi, the company that also operates the additional restaurants and merchandise location in the pavilion. Neither Mitsukoshi or Disney have commented on when the location will reopen.

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall

Disney just announced the reopening of Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in the Norway pavilion. This location has been a popular spot for its authentic Norwegian cuisine alongside family-friendly menu options, and it is home to Princess Storybook Dining, making it one of Disney World’s most unique character dining experiences. Reservations open soon for dining beginning next month, and the full menu is available on Disney’s website and in the My Disney Experience App.
