Universal Orlando Resort has spent the past year celebrating the arrival of Epic Universe, but it already feels like the resort is preparing for what comes next.
In a move that many fans have anticipated since before the park officially opened, Universal has now confirmed that Epic Universe will debut its first major nighttime fireworks spectacular this summer. While the announcement is exciting on its own, it also arrives as visible work continues on expansion areas surrounding the new theme park.
Taken together, the developments paint a picture of a destination that is still very much growing.
Epic Universe Finally Gets Its Nighttime Finale
Universal officially announced Universal Celestial Goodnight, a brand-new nighttime spectacular that will debut on July 7 at Epic Universe. The production will take place in Celestial Park and serve as the park’s end-of-night sendoff for guests.
According to Universal, the new show will combine synchronized fountains, lighting effects, music, and a fireworks finale inspired by the various worlds of Epic Universe. Guests can expect moments celebrating SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and Dark Universe.

The addition fills one of the few missing pieces that fans identified shortly after Epic Universe opened. While the park immediately impressed guests with its attractions, immersive lands, and visual design, many visitors noted that it lacked a true nighttime spectacular comparable to what guests can find elsewhere at Walt Disney World.
That is about to change.
A Massive Production Behind the Scenes
Universal isn’t treating Universal Celestial Goodnight like a small fireworks show.
The company says the production will feature nearly 600 synchronized lighting fixtures, more than 350 fountains, and approximately seven million LED lights spread throughout Celestial Park. The experience will conclude with a large-scale fireworks finale above the heart of the park.
The announcement also confirms months of speculation among dedicated Universal fans.
Before Epic Universe opened, concept art frequently showed fireworks over Celestial Park. Guests also spotted evidence of nighttime-show infrastructure throughout the park, including a launch peninsula that appeared designed specifically for pyrotechnics. Universal later began hiring fireworks technicians and installing additional equipment around the property, leading many fans to believe a major nighttime production was inevitable.
Now Universal has officially made it reality.

The Timing May Not Be a Coincidence
The fireworks announcement arrives during an interesting moment for Epic Universe.
Over the past several months, fans have closely tracked activity on land surrounding the park. Expansion plots that were always part of Epic Universe’s long-term master plan have shown increasing signs of development, fueling speculation about what could eventually be added to the resort.
Universal has not announced any specific new lands or attractions for those areas, but the company has never hidden the fact that Epic Universe was designed with future growth in mind.
Unlike many older theme parks that must work within tight space constraints, Epic Universe opened with large parcels of nearby land reserved for future projects. That flexibility gives Universal room to expand individual lands, introduce entirely new experiences, or even develop additional entertainment offerings as attendance continues to grow.
Because of that, some fans view Universal Celestial Goodnight as more than just a fireworks show.
Instead, it feels like another step in the park’s evolution from a brand-new theme park into a fully mature destination.
Epic Universe Is Already Entering Its Next Phase
Most theme parks spend years settling into their identities after opening. Epic Universe appears to be moving much faster.
The park opened in May 2025 and immediately became one of the most ambitious projects Universal has ever undertaken. Since then, the resort has continued refining operations, adjusting guest offerings, and preparing additional entertainment experiences.
Adding a dedicated nighttime spectacular gives guests another reason to stay later in the day, potentially increasing dining, shopping, and overall guest activity throughout the evening.
More importantly, it demonstrates that Universal is continuing to invest in the park even after its historic opening year.
For longtime theme park fans, that’s often the strongest sign that a destination’s growth story is just beginning.
Between the arrival of Universal Celestial Goodnight on July 7 and ongoing activity surrounding future expansion areas, Epic Universe no longer feels like a project that has reached completion. Instead, it feels like a park entering its next chapter.
And if recent developments are any indication, that chapter may be arriving sooner than many fans expected.
The brand-new nighttime spectacular will debut on Tuesday, July 7. Keep it tuned for more details as they are announced.
