After a long day at the Walt Disney World theme parks, the one thing no one wants is to be evacuated out into the night due to an alarm blaring at the resort. But for hundreds of guests, that happened recently at one of the destination’s busiest hotels.

From early morning rope drops to catch the most popular attractions early to late-night fireworks spectaculars like Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom, a day at the Disney World theme parks can be extremely long, enjoyable, but long and tiring.
In a new Reddit post, one guest shared the moment that guests staying at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort were forced out of their rooms into the night due to a fire alarm going off. While there was no immediate explanation for the alarm, it can be presumed, due to no other reports, that a fire did not take place at the busy Disney World accommodation.

The short video shared by Redditor DuckQuacks shows guests outside of the apartment buildings at the All-Star Sports hotel while an alarm blares in the background.
Comments on the post give some reasons why the alarm causing the guest evacuation may have been going off. One Redditor WishIWasOnTheFarm explained that it could have been caused by a fire sprinkler maintenance error:
I’ve never worked at Disney, but I’ve been a maintenance guy in large apartment buildings. There are a variety of ways an alarm can go off like this that don’t involve literal fire. Not too uncommon, they’re typically set up to favor a false alarm vs not going off. Most commonly thing I saw on several occasions was when a fire sprinkler line starts losing pressure and they go off. Especially easy for a false alarm in a dry line.

Another comment from xeno0153 outlined that one issue they face repeatedly is guests reporting an odor after turning heating units on.
Not alarms, but the #1 call for concern we got from hotel guests was “we can smell a faint odor” after turning the heat on. Many people have not familiarized themselves with the smell of dust on a heater coil and it shows.

Blaaamo, a firefighter, gave another take on what could have caused the fire alarm to sound:
as a firefighter I can tell you there are lots of ways these go off. Vaping is #1 on the list, but showers, food, smoking are all on the list.

It’s not uncommon for incidents like this to happen at the Walt Disney World Resort, which boasts over 25 hotels. As asealifeforme said:
It happens all the time. Happened a couple weeks ago at the Poly. We had one at Pop because the people tried smoking in the room or bathroom.

Other comments jokingly said that the evacuation was actually Extra Magic Evening Hours, a nod to the former perk that Disney World used to offer. They later rebranded it to Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Hours for select guests.
Later in the Reddit thread, the original poster (OP) said they had talked to a hotel manager during the evacuation and that the event had taken place at around 11 p.m.:
Fire Alarm I think, asked a manager standing outside the building and he said he had no clue what was going on.

This time, there may be no explanation for why this happened at All-Star Sports Resort, but judging by the comments on this post alone, it’s a common occurrence—almost a rite of passage—for guests to experience a late-night evacuation while on vacation.
