What is happening at The Walt Disney Company?

Following thousands of layoffs, new news breaks amid the exit of Christine McCarthy, the Chief Financial Officer for the Walt Disney Company. Now, Variety reports, Chief Diversity Officer and Senior Vice President Latondra Newton is stepping down from her role after nearly six years with the company.

This is the second large exit for The Walt Disney Company within one week.

The departure comes as sources state she will be joining the board of another company but also wants to focus on her own creative company. Newton earned the role as head of DEI, responsible for “overseeing the company’s commitment to producing entertainment that reflects a global audience and sustains a welcoming and inclusive workplace for everyone.”

In the meantime, Newton’s direct reports will report to Julie Merges until a new chief diversity officer is named, as reported by Variety. Disney’s HR Chief, Sonia Coleman, sent a note to staff after Newton’s departure. Coleman details her leaving to “pursue other endeavors” and thanks her for her contributions. It is unsure who will step into these new leadership roles, as The Walt Disney Company has such significant changes in a short amount of time. It is no secret that The Walt Disney Company has been undergoing changes, with previous CEO Bob Iger stepping back into his role after troubles with former CEO Bob Chapek.

All of these changes have also come to be during the lawsuit between Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Amid the battle in court, The Walt Disney Company is fighting to push forward no matter how many changes or pushbacks they may endure.
