For most Disney Parks fans, the thought of an unexpected ride stop on one of Walt Disney World Resort’s iconic attractions is the stuff of dreams. Who wouldn’t want a glimpse behind the scenes of the magic? Recently, a lucky group of Disney’s Animal Kingdom visitors got precisely that—a rare chance to explore the mysterious inside of Expedition Everest when their ride was unexpectedly halted at the roller coaster’s peak.
Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain is a fan-favorite roller coaster nestled in the Asia section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Known for its thrilling backward drops and towering “Mount Everest” peak, this ride sends guests racing through the Himalayan Mountains to uncover the secrets of the elusive Yeti. But for one group, the adventure took an unexpected twist when the train stopped right at the ride’s “broken” tracks—giving them an up-close look at the forbidden mountain’s inner workings!
TikTok user @raisingroamers captured the rare evacuation and shared it with fellow Disney fans. The video shows Disney cast members arriving to guide guests safely down the mountain. “We heard announcements saying that our train had come to an unexpected stop,” the guest explained.
@raisingroamers Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be stuck on a ride at Disney World?! Well, we found out! #creatorsearchinsights #disneyworld2024 #disneyworldorlandoflorida #orlandoflorida #stuckonarollercoaster #stuckonaride #RaisingRoamers
After a few moments, the ride powered down, and Disney cast members began the evacuation, escorting guests from the train car one row at a time. With more than 12 flights of stairs to descend, guests got an exclusive peek at the industrial side of Mount Everest, navigating the winding pathways through the mountain’s inner structure. The TikToker described the interior as “weird-looking” and “industrial”—a stark contrast to the immersive theming on the outside.
Even though the unexpected stop might have surprised some guests, Disney cast members were prepared and handled the situation smoothly.
“Thankfully, the staff members say that this kind of thing doesn’t happen too often, but they definitely have procedures in place for when it does,” the Disney Park guest recalled.
To make up for the unexpected stop, Disney cast members handed out water bottles and provided Lightning Lane passes as a token of appreciation for their patience.
Far from dampening their spirits, the experience left guests even more excited to hop back on Expedition Everest once it reopened. For these Disney Parks fans, the brief behind-the-scenes look added a new layer of magic to an already thrilling attraction.
