“Two tiny wings, eyes big and yellow
Horn of a steer, but a lovable fellow
From head to tail, he’s royal purple pigment
And there, viola! You’ve got a Figment!”

In 1983, iconic Imagineer and Disney Legend Tony Baxter was watching an episode of Magnum P.I. when he heard the perfect name for an adorable purple dragon — Figment! And while Figment was not part of EPCOT when it first opened, he has since become the symbol of the park and one of Disney’s most beloved characters.

In the years since, EPCOT’s Figment-themed attraction, Journey Into Imagination, has gone through several rethemes and updates and remains one of the more controversial rides in the theme park. However, Figment’s popularity has only appeared to grow, and in the fall of 2023, Disney finally brought back a Figment meet and greet.

In 2022, to the surprise and delight of many fans, it was reported that Disney was actually making a Figment movie. The film was being produced by Seth Rogen’s production company and even had writers attached to the project.

Since then, Disney has not shared any more details about the film, but at the 2025 Annual Shareholders Meeting held on March 20, Disney CEO Bob Iger appeared to confirm that the movie was no longer happening.

During the Q&A session, Mr. Iger was asked about the potential of a Figment movie or television series, and instead of reiterating that there was a movie in the works, Mr. Iger joked about how often he is asked about Figment.

He then said that he was going to speak to Disney creatives about developing some short-form Figment content, or maybe even developing a series based on the lovable purple dragon.

So, while Mr. Iger and Disney did not outright say that the Figment movie had been canceled, the fact that they didn’t mention it appears to indicate that it is no longer happening.

However, until Disney or Rogen’s production company, Point Grey Pictures, confirms that the movie has been canceled, all we can do is assume that it is in production limbo.

Are you excited to hear that Disney might be making a Figment series? Or are you still hoping that they will make a feature-length film? Should Disney invest more in the purple dragon? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
