This New Snack Doubles as a Piece of Iconic Disney World Art

When you think of the best works of art around Walt Disney World, what comes to mind? For us, one of the best displays on Disney property can be found right in the Grand Canyon Concourse, the area where the monorail passes through in Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

Here Guests will find the Pueblo Village Mural, created by Disney Legend Mary Blair. Blair designed the mural for the opening of the Resort in 1971 taking her unique art style (that you may know from attractions like “it’s a small world,” or films like Alice in Wonderland (1951) and Cinderella (1950) and applying it to inspiration taken from Navajo ceremonial art in the American Southwest.

The mural actually has a functional purpose, too. You may not have noticed it while admiring the artwork, but Blair’s Pueblo Village mural actually covers the Resort’s elevator shafts that span 90 ft. from floor to ceiling. This is not the most memorable detail of the mural, however, as oftentimes Guests take an extra few minutes taking it all in to see if they can spot the intentionally-designed five-legged goat.

Blair purposefully added one goat with five legs to the mural as a nod to the Navajo belief that only the Great Spirit (and therefore not anything manmade) is capable of perfection. While this Easter egg is also a fun detail for Guests to spot on the mural, Disney is showcasing the five-legged goat even more this holiday season but including it in one of the Resort’s delicious seasonal snacks. During the holidays this year, Guests can pick up the five-legged goat sugar cookie in the Grand Canyon Concourse:

It’s not just the festive sugar cookie that will be featuring the iconic Mary Blair design. For the first time since 2019, Disney’s Contemporary Resort will once again install the Cinderella Gingerbread Castle display done in Mary Blair’s renowned style, and with 11 five-legged goats hidden in its design.

Along with the sugar cookie and gingerbread display, Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be one of the best destinations outside the theme parks and Disney Springs for shopping this holiday season with limited-edition, pins, mugs, and ornaments all available nearby the display.
