Guests at Disneyland Park are describing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as a “ghost town,” raising questions about the state of the land five years after its grand opening. Despite being one of the most ambitious additions to Disney Parks, some fans believe the Star Wars land has failed to maintain its initial popularity.
A Struggle to Maintain the Force
When Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge debuted in 2019, it promised to immerse fans in the Star Wars universe like never before. The land set high expectations, featuring two groundbreaking attractions—Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. However, technical issues and long waits for Rise of the Resistance, paired with waning interest in Smugglers Run, have left some fans disappointed.
Disney Park guests on Reddit recently discussed the lack of crowds in the land, even during Disneyland Resort’s busy holiday season. One Disneyland Park visitor called it a “ghost town.”
A “Ghost Town” in the Galaxy
“It was a pretty crowded day in the park,” Redditor u/goodvibe61 shared. “New Orleans Square was packed all day, as was Fantasyland and ToonTown. And in the evening those parts of the park were jammed, I mean packed. Main Street was crazy.”
Yet, Galaxy’s Edge was a stark contrast: “There was nobody there. I mean, empty.”
The guest noted they could grab food at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo without any wait and received their order almost instantly. Meanwhile, rides like Smugglers Run struggle to attract long lines despite lengthy wait times in the rest of Disneyland Park. (Many Disney Park guests have shared frustrations about this attraction’s repetitive storyline and lack of role choice.)
Disney Park guests overwhelmingly agreed that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has lost its shimmer since opening five years ago.
“Galaxy’s Edge is out of the way, and there are only two rides,” u/forlorn_hope28 commented. “One of which tends to have one of the highest wait times in the park. There’s nothing that incentivizes people to walk over to that side of the park.”
“There’s just not much to do once you’ve gone once there’s no reason to go again except the rides,” u/angrytoast39 wrote. “The merch basically stays the same. Once in the cantina is enough.”
Other fans echoed the sentiment, calling for Disneyland Resort to add more attractions to the land.
“Galaxy’s Edge needs at least one more good ride attraction and an indoor show attraction,” said u/bbbanb. “Oga’s cantina needs rotating acts and better-tasting, heartier, and less strange food choices as appetizers. There also needs to be new items for sale. ”
Change Is Coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Starting in 2026, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will feature a new storyline featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu, two of the most beloved new additions to the Star Wars universe. The update aims to reinvigorate interest in the land and attract longtime fans and new visitors.
