Guests were left stuck on EPCOT’s premium Guardians of the Galaxy attraction, and many online were shocked by the roller coaster’s appearance.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is one of Walt Disney World Resort’s most popular rides. Alongside the likes of TRON Lightcycle / Run and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the Marvel-themed coaster is just one of the latest additions to the Central Florida Disney parks.

The attraction allows guests to ride with the Guardians of the Galaxy while iconic tunes like “September” and “One Way Or Another” blast through the speakers, making it one of EPCOT’s most popular rides. Guests will queue for hours to experience the coaster, but not every guest will have a positive experience on board.

In a recent TikTok video from Lauren Chavez (@lchavez1121), the Disney World guest caught the Cosmic Rewind attraction with the lights on, a rare sight for a ride that is usually set in the dark. The video shows blank screens, black walls and flooring, and a vehicle full of bored and disappointed guests.

And while nothing is said in the video, the comments from the online crowd were far from complimentary, with more than one person saying it looked like an American megachurch.

One comment on the video said:

“Not gonna lie it feels like backstage at a mega church.”

While another echoed the sentiment, writing”

“You mean I’m embarrassing myself in a megachurch”

It wasn’t all megachurch comparisons, though; some pulled Disney up on how bland and seemingly dirty it was in the light. A comment read:

Shows just how lazy Imagineering got these past couple years

One user stated:

The other thing is the trains and everything are so dusty and dirty when you see them in the light. I was stuck at this spot

Unfortunately, it is not unusual for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind to go down at the EPCOT theme park. In fact, last month, EPCOT’s vice president, Matt Simon, had to issue an apology to the park’s thousands of guests after the operation of the roller coaster was suspended.

“On behalf of the entire team at EPCOT, I’d like to apologize that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is currently unavailable,” the notice read. “Our Cast Members are working diligently to get the attraction up and running again, and we are sorry you are not able to experience this attraction at this time.”

“I hope you will enjoy some of our other attractions during your experience in the park today,” he concluded.

Cosmic Rewind, while one of the most thrilling attractions on property, is perhaps one of the most unreliable, meaning each guest’s experience can vastly differ. As for these guests stuck with the lights on, hopefully, they were able to enjoy the ride when the problems were fixed.

The demand for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind may simmer down this month with the reopening of Test Track from its long refurbishment. In late July, the attraction will reopen to guests with new theming. The debut of this new Test Track will also cause a shift in the operation of EPCOT’s Lightning Lane offerings.

Beginning July 22, Soarin’ Around the World will drop into the lower tier of experiences, while Test Track will launch in the higher tier alongside Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT’s World Showcase.

About Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
