‘Halloween’ (1978) Digitally Altered, “Reimagined Extended Cut” Released Ahead of October 31

The original Halloween (1978) has been altered for a modern audience.

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a slasher classic as revered as John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978). Starring Jamie Lee Curtis as Haddonfield teen Laurie Strode, the film introduces one of the most terrifying villains in horror movie history: Michael Myers, a lunatic in a plain white mask and dark coveralls who stalks and brutally murders unsuspecting babysitters on the night of October 31.

While the 1978 film spawned multiple sequels and reboots, Carpenter’s original remains the most beloved entry, and it continues to influence not just the newer films themselves but also tie-in media, like IllFonic’s Halloween: The Game (2026), which launched in September.

The 1v4 asymmetrical multiplayer title, which also features a dedicated single-player campaign where you can take on the role of the Haddonfield bogeyman himself in a story that shows “more of the night he came home,” is, for all intents and purposes, a remake of Halloween (1978).

A New Halloween (1978) Remake Arrives in Time for October 31

Not only does it take place during the events of that film, but the developers even describe the single-player story as “a reimagined extended cut” of the original, per the official website for the game.

Halloween: The Game also brings back several familiar characters, including Laurie Strode (Chelsea Krause), Annie Brackett (Kaitlyn Robrock), Lynda van der Klok (Angela Carbone), Bob Simms (Nicholas Leung), Sheriff Brackett (Joe Ochman), Nurse Chambers (Heather Gonzalez), Lindsey Wallace (Quinn Kitmitto), and Dr. Loomis (Colin Mahan), while introducing many new ones collectively dubbed the “Heroes of Haddonfield.”

The original Halloween remains untouched; however, IllFonic’s game gives fans a new version of that night in 1978 — one with more characters, more victims, and more of Michael Myers’ rampage, while also revealing the dark secrets behind some of his most mysterious abilities.

The official description for Halloween: The Game states:

“Boogeyman or Hero: The Boogeyman is out. Team up in a 1v4 asymmetrical horror showdown on everyone’s favorite night of the year. Choose to save the quiet town of Haddonfield from bloodshed as a Hero of Haddonfield or stalk and terrorize the residents as Michael Myers.”
