There’s a new Hermione Granger — and she’s starring in two parallel Wizarding Worlds.
Earlier this year, Arabella Stanton, best known for playing Matilda in the West End stage show, was cast in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot. She’ll bring Hermione Granger to life in live action, but she’ll now also voice the role in Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions, a complete re-recording of the original seven books by Audible.
Despite being unrelated to the HBO series, the audiobook series now shares at least one key piece of casting. As of August 5, Stanton is officially the second actor to play their character in two separate timelines, joining Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the eight Warner Bros. films and is set to return in the Broadway run of Cursed Child.
As exciting as this development is, it adds to the increasing complexity of the Harry Potter franchise, which is set to span multiple timelines: the original books, the films, the new HBO series, the Broadway play, the game “Hogwarts Legacy,” and now the full-cast audiobooks.
Audible’s version also stars Matthew Macfadyen as Voldemort, a casting move that beat HBO to the punch, as the live-action series hasn’t yet announced its Dark Lord.
Stanton was cast on HBO’s side alongside Dominic McLaughlin (Harry) and Alastair Stout (Ron). HBO’s casting rollout has been steady — with names like John Lithgow (Dumbledore), Nick Frost (Hagrid), and Paapa Essiedu (Snape) also confirmed.

Before the Audible news, Stanton has already made an impression: a clip of her auditioning for an undisclosed role went viral and drew wide praise, with fans calling her a perfect candidate to play Hogwarts’ brightest witch.
The Audible release schedule kicks off November 4, 2025, and runs monthly through May 2026. The HBO series is filming now, but still has no release date.
