Guests visiting Walt Disney World Resort this week were surprised to find that one of Magic Kingdom Park’s most beloved attractions has quietly undergone a new update. The Haunted Mansion, located in Liberty Square, has undergone an unannounced change to its standby queue—one that appears to directly address guest complaints about comfort and weather conditions.

According to reports from WDWNT, Walt Disney World Resort has relocated The Haunted Mansion’s extended standby queue. For years, the popular attraction’s extended line has snaked through Liberty Square, exposing guests to the elements during Central Florida’s harsh sun and unpredictable storms. While much of the main queue remains shaded, the extended queue, used during peak attendance, offered little relief.

After countless guest complaints, Disney has made an overnight change to the area. The new extended queue is now located in the former docking space of the Liberty Square Riverboat attraction, which officially closed earlier this year.

Following the permanent closure of the Liberty Belle Riverboat and the Rivers of America in July, Disney installed rolling planters to block off the now-defunct area. Those planters have since been removed, and in their place stands a new extended queue for The Haunted Mansion. The space features new stanchions, rope, and signage to guide guests through the covered area.

The change not only offers additional shade but also protection from rain, creating a more comfortable wait for guests visiting during Florida’s stormy season. The area is still surrounded by construction walls as Disney continues its ongoing transformation of the nearby Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.

The Liberty Square Riverboat, Rivers of America, and Tom Sawyer Island all officially closed to guests in early 2025, as Walt Disney World Resort began preparing for a major new expansion project. Construction crews have since drained the waterway and demolished many of the island’s structures to make way for Piston Peak National Park, a new section of Frontierland inspired by Cars (2006).

The new land is expected to feature two attractions and an entirely reimagined landscape, though Disney has not yet announced an official opening date.

As of now, Walt Disney World Resort has not released an official statement about the modification to The Haunted Mansion queue or whether additional improvements are planned for the surrounding area.
