The classic attraction at Disneyland is getting a lot of attention. Haunted Mansion is one ride original to Disneyland Park, which opened in August 1969. Since opening day, Haunted Mansion has been spooking Guests and giving tours through the eerie home.

With the release of the remake of the film ‘Haunted Mansion’ (2023), the attraction has been the center of it all. First, actors spend the day at the Park as honorary Cast Members, and then the red carpet premiere. Although, due to the current strike, the cast did not attend, others who had a significant role in the attraction did, which is what inspired the film.

Tania McKnight Norris

Tania McKnight Norris is yet another pivotal Imagineer in The Walt Disney Company. Norris is solely responsible for one part of the Haunted Mansion. “She worked with many Disney Legends on projects spanning Disneyland attractions, original concepts for Walt Disney World Resort, and Expo 67 in Montreal,” explained. Her participation in Haunted Mansion was quite grand as she created the infamous purple wallpaper. In her interview below, she recalls how there was no “spooky” purple wallpaper, so she doodled one herself.

Bob Gurr and Tania McKnight Norris are only two of the many that helped Haunted Mansion come to life. Although the cast could not attend the premiere, having two Imagineers show face and recount their days working with Disney was special.
