Woman Accused of Embezzling Church Funds to Pay for Lavish Disney World Vacations

Trips to the Walt Disney World Resort can be very expensive, and it’s always nice when someone else pays. However, that doesn’t mean you should go out and steal to afford a trip to Disney World.

Despite that, an Indiana woman is being accused of stealing more than $200,000 from her church and local charities in part to pay for multiple trips to Disney World. Amy Nunn, 42, was the treasurer for Grand Avenue Baptist Church in New Castle, Indiana, from February 2020 to January 2025, and during that time, she was able to steal thousands to pay for her trips. 

During her time as treasurer, Nunn was the only person with access to the church’s books. She is also accused of withholding donations to local charities meant to go through the church, but she allegedly kept that money.

According to police documents, $3,000 went missing during her first two years as treasurer, but the church did not report it or think it was suspicious. In 2023, more than $115,000 went missing that was used for Nunn’s first Disney World trip. In 2024, Nunn returned to Disney World after taking over $32,000 from the church and charities.

The police report said:

Nunn’s spending habits and her unfettered access to the church’s monies did not stop until her resignation. By then, unbeknownst to the rest of the church leaders, the church was operating on a month-to-month basis, surviving only on the weekly tithes and offerings.

Despite stealing over $200,000 from the church, officials did not realize the money was missing until late 2024 when two checks bounced. After an investigation in early 2025, the church realized it was $500 in the red.

After the church realized the money was stolen, Nunn resigned as treasurer and Sunday school teacher in a letter. She called her actions “shameful.”

When police arrested Nunn, she initially downplayed her actions, calling her withdrawals “accidents,” but she eventually confessed to stealing the money.

Besides her trips to Disney World, Nunn also allegedly used the money for online gambling, Amazon Prime subscriptions, internet services, and purchases at Lowes and Walmart. Despite the church being onto her in late 2024, Nunn allegedly stole another $1,500 in early 2025 before she resigned.

Nunn is charged with five counts of felony theft.
