Halloween hasn’t even arrived yet, but Disneyland Resort is already getting one of its signature Fantasyland attractions ready for Christmas. Southern California Disney Park guests who look closely at the exterior of “it’s a small world” can spot the first signs of the holiday makeover.
What the Holiday Overlay Brings
Every year, “it’s a small world” is reworked for the Most Wonderful Time of the Year at the Happiest Place on Earth. Thousands of colorful Christmas lights go up, the doll animatronics change into international holiday-themed outfits, and the soundtrack blends holiday classics with the ride’s famous theme song. Other festive touches round out the transformation.
The attraction will close for the holiday overlay on October 30 and return on November 13, 2026. That leaves the ride open through the height of the Halloween and fall season, even as the work outside gets underway.
Lights Already Hanging
WDWNT reported on October 13 that Christmas lights had appeared on the Fantasyland ride facade. The strands mostly disappear against the white exterior, though they stand out most where they drape over the gold details around the front of the building.
Disney cast members have installed the lights early, but they will stay dark for a few more weeks. Disneyland Resort won’t switch them on until the overlay officially opens on November 13.
More Changes Coming
Once the Fantasyland ride closes on October 30, crews will add a bright red Santa Claus hat to the spinning clock face on the facade. Beyond the Christmas lights, Disneyland Resort guests shouldn’t expect to see any other signs of the “it’s a small world” Holiday attraction for a few more weeks.
